The Business Conscience.
This very timely editorial from T
Carolianian:
The strenuous times through whi
we are now passing have eitli
brought into existence or brought
light from where it lay hidden by t
veneer of prosperity a certain Is
ness of business procedure and bu
ness morals which is most deplorab
Many men who have hitherto be
irreproachable in their business cc
duct and relationships have becoi
indiffirence to business obligatioi
and business ethics or worse still, ha
resorted to questionable practice a
habits.
It would be a purely theoreti<
matter, though it might be intere.
ing enough, to enter at this time i
to a discussion as to whether tl
condition indicates a Die-existing te
dency which only needed the prop
atmosphere and circumstances to (
velop into a habit or whether it inc
cates a break-down in a hither
sound business constitution. In eith
event, we are facing, not a theoi
but an actual condition, which nee
vigorous amendment.
The man who has been able to me
his financial obligations as they m
tured during the past few months
so exceptional as almost to be in t
class of freaks, and we may cast i
him one glance of malignant en1
and drop him from consideration.
The great mass of us have bei
unable to meet existing obligations
to get money for current uses ar. \
desired it. The knowledge of th
general situation has caused some
us to grow careless and indiffere
in our business; to ignore complete
our financial engagements and to u
methods utterly indefensible from
standpoint of morals in busine
transactions. Men have stagger
along in the twilight zone b:twe<
compliance with the letter of the la
and a broad comprehensive conce
tion of morality, many have drift
far out to sea. On the other hai
men who found themselves unable
liquidate their boligations as they m
tured went frankly to their creditoi
explained the situation, made siv
payments as they could, and made a
rangements for extension. Then th<
took up their own burden of self-d
nial and brought their current e
penses down to the level of their poc
et-books. Such men will find ther
selves, when "normalcy" has been r
stored, in position to command cred
as well as all other necessary bus
ness acommodations, because, havii

and integrity will thereafter be u
questioned. Unfortunately, sonic
the men who now appear to disrega
business obligations and business et
ics will find the experience of tl
present days rising up to block the
in their tranactions hereafter, for tl
story of the present will not be quid
ly forgotten.
So, even from a purely selfi;
standpoint, it will pay every mr
many times over to maintain his bu
iness reputation. But more irnpo
tant still is the personal effect on tl
man himself of his course in this re
pect. Xo man should ever have 1
admit to himself that he has weal
ened on a moral question. Yieldir
to weakness today makes it tv o fo
easier to yield toworrow, and i lor
course of temporizing with conscien<
and yielding to weakness must evei
tually undermine and sap the who
moral constitution. There is no mo
al wrong in being unable to pa

Do you wake up tired ?
If you feel "lazy", listless, sleepy at the wrong
time, it is a danger signal. Probably your vigor
is being sapped by "self-poisoning".
Self-poisoning through constipation leads to the
most dangerous diseases. When you allow constipation
to take hold of your system, you are
paving the way to the whole train of serious illnesses
which follow.
Pills, castor oil, laxative waters and salts only force
and irritate the bowels and make constipation
a habit.
Nujol works on an entirely new principle.
Instead of forcing or irritating the system, it simply
softens the food waste. This enables the many tiny
muscles in the walls of the intestines, contracting
and expanding in their normal way, to squeeze the

the system.
Nujol thus prevents constipation because it helps Nature maintain
easy, thorough bowel evacuation at regular intervals ? the
healthiest habit in the world.
Nujol is absolutely harmless and pleasant to take. Try it.
