ALLIES DEMANDS
GERMANY AGREES TO PAY
200,000,000,000 GOLD
MARKS
The ultimate total indemnity which
Germany agress to pay the Allies is
200,000,000,000 gold marks, as against
226,000,000,000 demanded by the allies
in their Paris terms.
This is positively stated by those
lose to the government, although the
German counter proposals have not
been made public here, says a news

Dr. Simons, the foreign secretary, 1
did not present the new proposals to I
the Reichstag because of an under- I
standing with the American embassy,
and for the additional reason that
there is a paragraph in the note to
President Harding suggesting that
he feel free to query back for further
information or for the Judication of
any point not clear, if he so desires,
fcefore submitting the note to the Entente.
Consequently, the German press and |!!!
public, and even the party leaders,

and their publication is eagerly awaited.
The Germans suggest making the
annuities in the payment of the reparations
flexible, dependent upon the recovery
of German industries. An international
loan is suggested, to be
floated immediately, to place ready
cash at the disposal of the Entente,
but no sum is named.
Germany expresses her willingness
to pledge the customs revenues as
guarantees, and further offers to deliver
manufactured articles to the Allies,
with the understanding that Germany
will pay the producers and get
credits on the indemnities. Germany
also offers immediate participation in
the work of restoration in the devastated
areas, labor and materials to be
supplied by Germany and credited
against the indemnities.
No suggestion is made 01 uermany s
willingness to assume the indebtedness
of the allied powers to the United
States.
Germany's counterproposals are so
. intricate and involved that the experts
who have read them express the
' opinion that they may be misinterpreted,
as the London offer was by per-1T

Dear Sir:
At the meeting of the State Board
of Education, April 8th, the date of
the regular spring teachers' examination
was set for Saturday, May 7th.
Please make tin necessary advertisement
in the columns of your county
]>apers. In due time a supply of questions
will be forwarded to each county
court house by the State Board of Exnminers.
The usual nine subjects will be included
as follows?English grammar
and composition, geography, physiology
and hygiene, United States history,
civics and current events, arithmetic,
algebra, agriculture and the
theory and practice if teaching,
Spelling, punctuation, neatness and
! gimiliar points will be judged from the
quality and character of the examination
papers.
The usual first-grade, second-grade
and third-grade certificates to run for
a term of two years will be issued
from the central office at Columbia.
All papers submitted by applicants
_ should be carefully collected by the
- j county superintendent and returned to
t the State Board of Examiners by registered
mail. It is particularly requested
that the mail and not the ex,
press be used.
Every teacher in your county hold.
