as to the effect of siloing upon the

on a farm or range.
During the last summer and fall
about 150 different plants and comr
binations of plants were packed in
P barrels in the same manner that enj
silage is placed in a silo. The purpose
. was to study the effect of the silo fe>
. mentation upon the fiber and other
. features of the plants. It was thought
j possible that silage would overcome
s some objectionable qualities of certain
. plants, in addition to breakind down
the fiber of some which were too
, woody for stock feed.
The various lots of silages were
. taken to Beltsville to test theii pala
. lability as cattle feed. The tests were
I not protracted enough to give final
t | conclusions, but a number of interestJ

about 12 hours, and the same was true a
of ragweed, which cattle seldom touch j
in the field. Canada thistles, and cas- =
tor bean plants without seed were [
eaten quite readily. Jack bean vines {
and pods were eaten rather reluctant- (
ly. The cows ate siloed Australian [
salt bush, but not the native plant. I
Siloed onion tops were fed to four [
cows; two ate them and two refused [
them. Buckwheat also provided a f
choice morsel^ Cabbages, which in ?
their natural state are eaten avidly
by cattle, were absolutely untouched
when siloed, the produce being in
many respects simiiiar to sauer kraut
but without the salt. Giant rye grass
went untouched. The cattle were not
compelled to eat any of the siloed products
to satisfy hunger, as hay was
fed them between siloed rations and
i they had the regular portions of grain.
The teste were not entirely conclusive,
especially as the quantities were so
small that the animals did not have
an opportunity to get accustomed to
unfamiliar flavors.
The department may make more !
extensive tests another season on |
some of the materials, as there was [
no opportunity with barrel lots to jj
gain any knowledge as to the beef ?
and milk producing value of tne feeds. [

How About Your
Danger Zone?
You've got it?every human being is born with
it?your large intestine, or colon. It is a long,
muscular tube?intended to collect food waste
and remove it from the body.
Plug it up with waste, neglect it, and you're sick
on your feet. The food waste stagnates, undergoes
decay, fermentation and germ action.
Allow constipation to become established, and you are liable
to become definitely and miserably sick?and not on your
feet either.
Pills, castor oil, laxative waters and salts only force and irritate
the bowels and make constipation a habit.
Nujol works on an entirely new principle.
Instead of forcing or irritating the system, it simply softens
tht food waste. This enables the many tiny muscles in the
walls of the intestines, contracting and expanding in their
normal way, to squeeze the food waste along so that it passes
naturally o?:< of the system.
M-:-' *?..? mnctinnficn because it helos Nature
maintain easy, thorough bowel evacuation at regular intervals
?the healthiest habit in the world.
Nujol is absolutely harmless and pleasant to take. Try it.
Nujol is sold by *11 druMists in sealed bottle* only, beariof Nujol Trade
