The following letter which was
handed us a few day* ago should be
of interest to farmers of Williamsburg.
especially those who raise cottcn
on a large scale:
Charleston, S. C.. March 18, 1921.
Mr. S. H. Tift,
Kingstree, S. C.,
Dear Sir:
"We are desirous of placing on record
with you and with our other connections
that which we know to be
best for the producer of cotton, and
also to the holders of the present unsold
crop.
"It is essential that the acreage be
reduced from 4(Kf to bOfr. The small
acreage then to be heavily fertilized,
thereby producing an early crop to b?

"If it is given out during the latter
part of April that the acreage has
been reduced east of the Mississippi it
will create a better feeling ir. the
market and will result in business
i.nd a general improvement.
"In the event of the reduction being
only 10Cr or 20^ and the fertilizer
reduction 60^, would spell ruination
to the country. It is the acreage
that the country is watching at the
j moment irrespectively of what the
final production will be Therefore
do your best to get this reduction in
acreage and if cotton is to be planted
at all it should be fertilized."

Rome Book Club.
The Rome Book club met with Mrs.
William Chandler on Wednesday afternoon.
March the loth. The meeting
was called to order by the president
and the elections for the ensuing
year were held. The elections ?esuted
as follows: President, Mrs. L. B.
Johnson; Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs.
L. F. Rhem; Custodian, Mrs. W. C.
Rollins; Programe Committe, Mrs. L.
F. Rhem. Mrs. W. C. Rollins, Mrs. G.
K. Way. The secretary read a letter
from Mrs. Rufus Fant. state president,
welcoming the club into the state
Jederation. This was the first meeting
since the club was federated, and
several communications from state
officers were presented. Mrs. W. C.
Rollins was elected a delegate to the
state convention at Camden with Mrs.
G. K. Way as alternate. The president,
by virtue of her office, is a delegate
to the convention. The program
committe? made a report of its activities,
and submitted a copy of the year
book which has been prepared. The
committee announced a complete set
of reference books for the course in

The program for the meeting was
on Political Parties and Party Systems.
Miss Halene Clark and Mrs.
G. E. Grier presented interesting and
instructive papers on phases of this
subject. It was decided by the club
that these papers be kept for future
reference. The president made a short
talk on the work some of the clubs
(if the state are doing. The roll call
was answered by "Greatest Needs of
the State".
The hostess sen-fed a delightful iced
course and the social hour was a merry
one. Mr. Chandler by his genial
presence and interest in the plans of

Mrs. Clara Smith Hamon, on trial
at Ardmore, Oklahoma, last week
oharged with the murder of Jake h.
Hamon. millionaire railroad and c-<l

case was one of the most sensaflonal
