Make Only Good Tobacco
Mr. Editor:
Will you please give me space to
talk just a little to the tobacco farmer?
There has been so much written
about organization, pooling, cutting
the crop, etc., until the planters have
gotten so confused they do not know
what to do.
My advice is to cut the crop at ieast
s one-third, as advised to do, and then
look closely after their crop and try
to make some good tobacco. Two?
thirds of a crop well cultivated and
suckered out will bring good money
at paying prices to the farmer. I be^B
lieve common tobacco will sell even
Bk lower next season and will continue to
9| do so until something is done for the
relief on the $1.96 per pound foreign
F duty on tobacco to European countries.
K But there is a strong demand now for
W good tobacco. The best grades are
selling now at $60.00 to $80.00 on
nearly every market where there is
any good tobacco sold. Danville, Va..
has had a good crop and last week
sold a million pounas ox bouacoofaki
$26.30 average and the week before |
over a miljion dollars worth at $28.53
average. Mebane, N. C., has had a
good crop and has averaged $30.00 for
the entire season.

Marion Literary society have

ings and essays. New officers for the
WBR second term were elected recently and
continued improvement is hoped for.
For some time the high school girls
V have had a basket ball team organized.
Much interest has been shown in the
game and the girls enjoy playing very
much.
