Gilland spent several days last week in Florence with her son J. D. Gilland, Esq. ? Miss Dordie McGill is at home after a delightful visit to her sister, Mrs. Gregg, in Florence. * ? Miss Ruth Carraway of Georgetown spent last week-end here as the guest of Miss Marian McFadden. * ? * ? Mrs D. C. Scott has returned from Maxton, N. C., where she has been visiting her sister Mrs Margaret Alford. m m m m Miss Bessie Burbage, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. L. Roy Cates, returned to her home in Florence Tuesday. Next Tuesday will be Washington's birthday, February 22. In commemoration of the day the local banks will be closed. Mesdames W. E. Jenkinson and L. R. Mcintosh who have been visiting relatives at Hinemann returned to Kingstree Friday. Messrs. Ted Kortjohn and David Doar of Sumter spent the past weekend here with Mr. Kortjohn's sister, Mrs. Harry Britton. Mr. H. F. Newell of Hemingway, Route 4, was in Kingstree today and called at this office to suh?"~;v* for The County Record. Xm Mrs. Kortjohn, who has been visiting her d&uehter. Mrs. Harry Britton for the past week, returned to her home in Orangeburg Sunday afternoon. Miss Grace Haddock of Bryans, spent the week-end here with friends. Dr. B. W. Middleton of Greelyville, spent Sunday here with Dr. L. Roy Cates. * * t Mrs. Bachman and little son, Bill, who have been visiting the former's daughter, Mrs. J. C. Epps, returned to their home in Bloomfield N. J., Saturday. * Mrs. Clarence Alsbrook and her little daughter, Doris, are spending this week in Hemingway, with Mrs. Alsbrook's parents Mr. and Mrs. Albert Flowers. The Hon. P. H. Stoll is spending several days with his family here be^ fore returning to Washington for the extra session of Congress called for \ March 4. Miss Winkle Glenn, who was the guest of Miss Marian McFadden, last ?* week, returned to Charleston Sunday morning, to resume her studies at ^ Ashley Hall school. Mr. W. F. Tolley, received a telegram yesterday afternoon from Dr. Walter Mitchell saying that he would be unable to fill his appointment at St. Alban's church here Sunday. Cards have been issued by the Kings tree Dance club to a dance to be given at the Kellehan hotel, Friday night, February 18th. The Dixieland Roamers areito furnish the music. Mr. David J. Snowden of Dalmar. Del., spent the past week with relatives in the Cedar Swamp section. This is Mr. Snowden's first visit to his old home since about four years A real live, active Buster Brown with a full fledged Tige dog, will be at E. C. Burgess' store here Saturday, February 26, at 3 p. m. The show is free and everybody invited to seee it. See ad on back page of this paper. Some very timely work is being > done at the court house just now. The ^ exterior of the old edifice is being treated to a first class oG oecoin.tko treated to a fresh coat of paint and the several offices and auditorium are undergoing a thorough overhauling, being given fresh paint, new floor coverings and in some instances new furniture, however not before it was badly needed. Mr. A. C. Swails expects to leave I Sunday for the northern markets. Miss Carrie Scott has returned from J a visit trends at Cheraw. * * * Mr. G. B. Jngraham, of Hemingway, was in Kingstree Saturday on business. Maynard Brothers expect to open I their new cafe on Academy street Monday. * Mrs. S. O. Pegues of Cheraw was the guest of Mrs. M. F. Heller nere one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. C. Tucker left Saturday night for Baltimore where they are spending the week. * * * Miss Annie Ervin, and her little niece, Clara Witherspoon Erwin, visited friends here for several days this week. * * Mr. Walter Anderson of Timmonsville is here with his sister Mrs. A. M. Snider, who is prostrated as a result of the death of her husband, Dr. A. M. Snider. * * * Little Miss Martha Clairborne celebrated her natal day, Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 o'clock by entertaining a number of her little friends at a birthday party. Messrs. Walter Poston and E. X. Husbands of Johnsonville were in Kingstree Tuesday looking into matters concerning the election held in that section of Williamsburg comty on July 13 last, the result of which decided the question of anexing the Johnsonville territory, in Williamsburg county, to Florence county. It seems that after the (.lection was held nothing further was ever done in connection with the trasfer or anexation. The election commissioners, it appears, failed to take cognizance of and make tVip mnnpr rptm-nc tn flip rnimtv nnd state officials. Mr. Italy R. Gee and Miss Carmie Pressley who were married in Columbia last Saturday, February 12th, returned to Kingstree yesterday after having visited Baltimore and other cities. They will make their home here. Mrs. Gee will be pleasantly remembered by her host of friends as the young lady who for several seasons past has been in charge of the millinery department at the Silverman Department store. Mr. Gee is a well known young business man of the town, until recently connected with the establishment of Mr. Chas. Tucker. o Life Among the Romans Rome, Feb. 15.?Misses Helen Cheatham and Eleanor Todd of the Union high school faculty were the guests of friends in Columbia last week-end. Prof. 0. M. Mitchell of Gibson, N. C. was a week-end visitor here. J. B. Hemingway spent last week with friends at Hemingway. He has been sick for several months but we are glad that he is now improving. Mrs. G. K. Way. and little daughter, Harriet, are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Floyd at Floydale. Mrs. W. Carey Rollins is spenchig some time at McBee with her father Rev. E. P. Hutson. Mrs. Kemper Hill is spending some time with her mother, Mrs. McElveenj at Cades. Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Hemingway and Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Ingraham of Hemingway were visitors here Sunday. Melvin Cribb of this place and Miss Lydie Smith the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Smith of Bloomingvale were united in marriage on Feebruary 2. Mrs. Cribb is well known here, having attended Union high school for several years. We are glad to lave her ls a pemament resident in our community. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mr3. Edward Cribb and is a ydting business man of sterling qualities. Mrs. Dena Lee visited the family of her brother Mr. Jas. Rollins at Indiantown Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Johnson -ire occupying th: heme of Pr :f. and Mrs. 0. M. Mit:h-ll while they are away. Prof. Mitchell has charge a school in Marlboro county. Mrs. Johnson entertained some of the young folks informally last Saturday evening. Games were played and an enjoyable evening was spent. On Monday night a surprise serenade and miscellaneous shower were given Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cribb. The crowd met seme distance from the house, so that the bride and groom might be taken completely by surprise, and such a burst of sound as was never heard before! When the music (?) was over all went into the house and showered the bride and groom with many useful and attractive gifts. We sorry that Mr. L. B. Johnson is still suffering from the effects of a fall during the freeze some time ago. A * K Township Assessors. Christtobele Austen, the o:.ly cl of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Burg died Sunday afternoon, February after an illness dating from bi that baffled the skill of physic and specialist. She was laid to i in the Mouzon cemetery Monday, s vices being conducted by the Rev W. Davis of Kingstree in the prese of surviving relatives and friei whose sympathy goes out to the 1< suffering, patient endurance of bereaved parents, covering a per of nearly 4 years.
