To Demonstrate Boll Weevil Dusters.
Clemson College, Aug.10.?To enable
the people in boll weevil territory
t< see various machines and methods
employed in dusting cotton for boll
weevil control. Director W. W. Long,
of the Extension Service of Clemson
College, has arranged a series of dusting
demonstrations in a number of
counties. At these demonstrations
there will be various types of machines
including at least three traction dusters
and several hand dusters, the
manufacturers of which will have representatives
present to operate them.
The demonstration will be in charge
specialists from the Extension Ser-j
vice and the Crop Pest Commission,;
the manufacturers cooperating to fur
nish and operate the dusters, and tht I
Southern, Seaboard and Coast Line
railroads to furnish transportation.
; There will be ten demonstrations as
follows: Charleston, Aug. 16; Walterboro,
Aug. 18; Fairfax, Aug. 20; Denmark,
Aug. 23; Aiken. Aug. 25; Orangeburg,
Aug. 28; Sumter, Aug. 20;
Florence, Sept. 1; Kingstree, Sept. 2;
.Andrews, Sept. 4.
Dusting with calcium arsenate, says
Prof. A. F. Conradi, entmologist of |
the Crop Pest Commission, is a matter
which cotton farmers should give careful
attention, for while the outlook is
encouraging, it is a complicated matter
in which time, method and manner
of applying are most important factors
and serious mistakes may be made
As it is probable that dusting will receive
greater attention next season,
an effort will be made to present the
poisoning operations in such manner
as to form an intelligent practical
guide for the future.
