"We're mighty grateful for all the
white man has done for us, but?we
want to go home now," the Rev.
James David Brooks told the convention
of the Universal Negro Improvement
Association last week in New
York, says the New York World. ,
"You brought us over; be manly and |
let us go back," Brooks sai^ y

utes, waving their green, black and j
red banners the while. "We're here," ,
the Rev. Brooks went on, "because
we've all been treated wrongly, and i
we're tired of it. The white race is <
tired of us and no one should seek to s

and fixity of purpose is manifest in j
the sessions of the convention as the i
delegates settle down to the real busi- f
ness for which it was caned. The i

that the election of an American leader
for the race will be held on Aug. 23,
a Provisional President of Africa
chosen on the 27th and a leader for
all negroes will be named on the 30th.
It is practically a certainty that Marcus
Garvey, organizer of the Association,
will be named for the last mentioned
office.
Adrian Johnson, a delegate from the
British possessions and for four years
a seaman in the British navy, submitted
a report on conditions in that
service.
A report from Atlanta, Ga., was
that a bill somewhat similar to the
old "Grandfather's clause," which
permitted a negro to vote if he could
prove that his ancestors were white,
has been introduced into the State

a person may vote.
Reports from fourteen delegates
ivere heard during the day and in the

Brothers Meet for First Time.
For the first time in th?ir lives, two
brothers met a few days ago at Colonial
Heights. Chesterfield county, just
across the Appomottox ri/er from Petersburg,
Va. They are L. D. Bushong,
of Lake Eye, Tex., aged sixtyeight
years, and W. C. Bushong, aged
inty-two years.
The two saw each other for the
first time at the store of W. C. Bushong.
The man from Texas, without
making his identity known, entered
the store and engaged his brother in
conversation. Later he told who he j (
