t INSPECTS GASOLINE T \NkS
Several Filling Devices Found to Be
Incorrect.
Columbia, July 27.?The inspectors
of the weights and measures bureau
of the State Department of Agriculture
have been examining gasoline
tanks and measuring devices in the
principle selling markets in the State.
Commissioner Harris recently gave
out a,statement as to the corrections
made in the gasoline pumps at Anderson,
where several were found incor
rect. While many pumps are not accurate,
there are a few that register 1

f badly wrong one way or another,
inspector Gilbert has forwarded his
report of work , in Greenville during
the week past. Out of thirty-six test ed,
he adjusted four and condemned
five for repairs. One pump was entirely
out of order. Two were found
that were half a gallon short on each
five gallon delivery, and these were
condemned.
Some of the notations of the inspector
read: "One cubic inch short
on each five-gallon dilevery; eight
cubic inches over in each five gallons;
nine cubic inches under five gallons;
A seven subic inches under five gallons;
nineteen cubic inches under five galJons;"
etc. The inspecting of these
deliver}- pumps is not a haphazard
kind of process, but is made with great
care and diligence. The department:
has special instruments approved by j
the Bureau of Standards in Washington
after the most exacting tests.
It is the "wish of the department!
to cooperate with the people over the;
State in getting weights and measures
regulated." This is not a matter j
of a few days, but is a steady and tedious

enough eggs during the year to pay
for the feed they consume. By simple
tests, which can readily be understood
by the owner of the poultry
flock, these unprofitable hens can be
eliminated; the same upmber of eggs
will be produced, and there will be a
material saving in the poultry feed
bill. . ,
