Miss Carrie Selvage was believed to be gff
cleared away with the finding today ga
of a skeleton in a private hospital ?8
where she was last seen.
The skeleton was found by work- ?
men who were turning the old building
into a garage. Clothed in a blue ??
dress, it was rekting in a sitting pos- SpE
lure in the corner of the attic. The ,|g
costume, along with a pair of felt ^
I slippers, were recognized by three ||j
brothers of the dead woman. They , g?
are Edward L., William J. and Joseph ,
W. Selvage, members of an old In- ^
dianopolis family.
The old building originally was an vg
orphans' home and later was converted .jg
into the Union States hospital. It gj
was at that time that Miss Selvage
entered the institution because of nervous
disease. Sometime later it was isa
turned into a rooming house. The ||
building was of unusual construction
ani the place where the skeleton was ||
found was a small comer about three gg
jj| by four feet, apparently a second at- .||
Miss Selvage disappeared in 1901. j|f
She sent her nurse after some milk ? i
and when the woman returned Miss 11
Selvage was gone. A country-wide jgj
search was made, graves in cemeteries |
were opened and the hospital repeat- ||
edly searched, but no trace could be |
found. ?
Coroner Robinson in a preliminary B
examination said he found no trace of ?
violence. Miss Selvage was 43 years j?
old and had been a school teacher. ra
