age and the most of her life was

A Wall From Mt. Vernon
Editor County Record:Being
a subscriber to your valuable
paper, I beg that you allow me
a little space in your columns to try
and put before our "Legislative Delegation,"
what a deplorable condition
our school district is in. Being a
trustee for District No. 58, 'Mt. Vernon"
school, I find that for all school
purposes, (derived from all available
sources) there is to our credit, for
thet whole school, term only $364.51
which amount has to be divided with
the colored school in our district.
We are giving our teacher $60.00, j
per month and the colored teacher;
$35.00. Now, you can see what a
short school term that will give us.
Now, I believe if a reasonable valuation
could be placed on the taxable
property in our district, there would
be a plenty of funds available.
For instance there is one well-tolo
farmer in our district who returns
16 head of cattle with a valuation of
mly $100.00 for the whole 16 head.
Or in other words an average of
$6.25 per head. We have 10 square
miles in our district, and the whole
amount of taxable property is only
$26,000.00. "Trustee."

Money Still Pouring In
Columbia, Jan. 20.?The Baptist
75 Million campaign in South Carolina,
though nominally closed or completed
early in DecemBer, is still
moving toward an advanced goal.
The original amount sought was $5,500,000,
but up to the present the
subscriptions taken since November
30th total more than $7,500,000, and
the canvass is still incomplete in ud
jifts to missions, education and
wards of a hundred churches. If all
benevolences made since May 1, 1919,
the date when the campaign really
began, were added, the total of the
South Carolina subscription would
overtop the $8,000,00 mark. The
South Carolina oversubscription is
the largest per centum increase thus
far reported in the South, this being
35%, with Georgia a close second.
It is confidently expected that the
full amount of the subscription will
be realized by the denomination in
cash during the fiye year period, and
the promotion plans of the Baptist
General Board in the State are to be
so prosecuted that for every loss to
the subscription, by death or otherwise,
there will be a new subscriber
from new membership acquired.
All of the interests that participated
in the $5,500,000 subscription
are also to participate in the $2,000,000,
oversubscription. Thus missions,
state, home and foreign, Sunday
schools, B. Y. P. U. and colportage,
Baptist schools and colleges, the
Connie Maxwell Orphanage, the Baptist
Hospital, and the board of aged
ministers' relief, along with the

to receive additional sums for the
prosecution of their good work.
It is a matter of general interest'
that the country churches subscribed
heroically to this fund, and the
records show that already many
churches heretofore regarded as
backward churches, in the matter of
beneficences, have sent in more cash
in a single payment than it has been
their custom to raise for a whole
year for all purposes combined, including
pastor's support, and in a
few cases the amount of cash given
is five and ten times as much as
these churches had ever given in a
single year. Another notable fact is
that along with these large subscriptions
and payments for general causes,
the churches have very materially
increased the salaries of their pastor.
Another striking fact is that
churches which largely oversubscribed
their large quota in the campaign
have also raised immense sums for
new church houses, and church build
