School of Methods Planned For All
Denominations at Spartanburg
Spartanburg, S. C., January. 5, 1920.
The Spartanburg County Sunday
1 School Association and the South Caralina
Sunday School Association are
i co-operating in the plans for holding
a school of methods for all Sunday
i school workers of all denominations
from January 18 to 23. The faculty
secured for this school includes a
j number of the leading workers in re
ligious education 01 tne continent.
The school will be held in the First
j Baptist church. The session will begin
'each afternoon at 3:45 and will continue
until 9:05. Sandwiches and coffee
will be served in the dining room
of the church between 6:30 and 7:30.
The officers of the school are expecting
to have at least 500 enrolled. No
registration fees will be charged. Attendance
and taking satisfactory notes
at any fifteen periods will entitle any
one to an International Training
School certificate. "With special honor"
will be added to the certificate
for five more periods.

The school of methods will open on
Sunday afternoon, January 18, with
a big mass meeting held in the First
Baptist church. Efforts are being
made to get every school in the county
represented at this meeting. On
Friday evening, the 23rd, immediately
at the close of the lectures, a pageant
entitled, "The Rights of the
Child" will be given. Mrs. S. X. Burts
of this city is in charge of the pageant.
All pastors, superintendents, officers,
teachers, class officers, parents,
and pupils in young people's and
adult classes are invited to attend.
Workers from all parts of the state
will be most cordially welcomed at
this school. It is regarded as one of
the most practical ways that the orcroniia/)

help to develop efficiency in the Sunday
Schools of the state.

Virginia Tobacco Markets
Wrappers averaged 90 cents a
pound in Richmond last week, thus
breaking all records known to the
oldest tobacco man in Virginia's capital.
The weather has not been favorable
of late for marketing the weed,
but while deliveries are on the decrease,
prices continue to advance.
The markets remain strong, and good
leaf is snapped up quickly at good
prices.
Richmond saw several record sales.
A well prepared load of ten piles of
sun-cured tooacco averaged 67 cents,
while averages of 40 cents down to
27 cents were quite common. A load
of brights from Hanover averaged 93
cents, while some sun-cured wrappers
easily made an average of 90 cents.
Fire-cured dark leaf sold: Smoked
lugs, 28 to30 cents; leaf35 to 40 cents.
These are also record prices for dark
goods.
South Boston secured large deliveries
and prices mounted. Receipts, 1,156,091
pounds, average price, 6SM>
cents. Total for season, 15,276,835
pounds, average 60 cents. Paid out for
tobacco this season, $8,500,000.
Lynchburg secured 802,200 pounds,
some wrappers going up to 80 cents.
Dark leaf sold at, common lugs, 25 to
29 cents; good lugs, 28 to 35 cents;
short leaf 30 to 37 cents; good leaf,
36 to 48 cents; wraps, 46 to 80 cents.
A remarkable sale was made when A.
E. Watts, Rockbridge, sold 2642 |
pounds of dark loose leaf tobacco ;
from two acres of land for $1212.31. 1
The average for seven grades was 46 j
cents, an unusual yield and unusual
price.
Farmville continues to boom the tobacco
market, each day's sales rang
ing a shade higher and higher. This |
town is drawing the weed from many j
sections hitherto considered out of its j
reach.
Drake's Branch averaged 42 cents
on ordinary leaf, while dark wrappers j
ran up from 75 to 81 cents, breaking j
known records.
Danville bought 2,116,000 pounds
at over 65 cents; total for season
25% million pounds.
Greenville handled 1,430,000 pounds
at an average of 69% cents, and
Rocky Mount 738,000 pounds at 62%
cents.

Treating Sore Shoulders
What is the best remedy for sores
on the shoulders, backs and necks of
horses, due to the collar and harness
chafing these parts?
First, remove the causing agent,
the collar and harness, when that is
practicable. Second, if the animal must
be used, se ethat the collar and harness
fit properly and are kept smooth
and clean. If the harness can be chang- 5
ed in any way to keep it off the sore
soot, this should also be done. Third,
keep the sore spots clean, but wash
as little as possible. It is good to wash
and rub dry a sound shoulder, to keep
it from getting- sore; but a sore
shoulder should not be washed. Dry
powders or astringent liquids should
be used on the sores, but ointments
or salves should be avoided. The sores
may be dusted with thoroughly airslaked
lime, or a mixture of equal
parts of boracic acid, tannic acid and
iodoform may be dusted on the sore
spots. Or, one ounce each of acetate
of lead and sulphate of zinc may be
put into one pint of water and applied
to the sores twice a day, or immediately
after removing the harness. The
bottle should be shaken before using j
