CORRESPONDENTS WANTED
The County Record is anxious to
have a good live correspondent at
every postoffice and settlement in
the county to gend in the news. If
there an* any who would care to engage
in his work we would be glad
to have them take up the matter with
us, either by mail or personally, so
that the necessary arrangements can
be made. Marriages, deaths, church
and school news, conditions of crops,
visitors to and from the neighborhood
and such items as are of interest
and we wish to publish these matters
for the information of our readers.

and would indicate that the progressive
spirt is stin alive in Kingstree
We sincerely trust that even* one
of these proposed interprises will
develop into complete success. But
even with all this new activity which
seems to be alert in our town, there
is a fundamental principle of growth
and stability which apparently, is being
entirely overlooked, and unless
this principle is recognized as apramount
and acted upon accordingly,
Kingstree, so far as real development
is concerned, is a finished product
right now.
We refer to home-building. There
is a scarcety of houses for rent which
is indeed alarming, mere arc scleral,
probably a dozen, instances of
recent occurrence where the owner;
ship of property has changed hands,
titles bought and paid for, yet the
purchasers are unable to get possession
for the reason that there are no
places to which present occupants
can move, except into the open street
or out of town, and by the way, we
know of at least a few who are making
arrangements to go to Andrews
and elsewhere simply because the
houses in which they have lived have
been sold, and there are no others to
be obtained
Unless speedily remedied this condition
will spell the death of Kingstree.
' Within
the past few months good
men have accepted positions in our
town and have had to give them up
because they could not get accommodations
for their families.
Our school teachers are being sorely
tritd by being obliged to room
here and there and take their meals
blocks away because of the congestion
in the homes of the town. This
is, to say the least, a disgrace. The
school and its interests, if nothing
else, deserves a better deal. We are
not complaining of the hospitality of
our people, for in this respect a better
people cannot be found, but we
are pointing to a serious situation,
hoping that steps will be taken for
its relief.
Inquiries are constantly coming in
from prospective citizens and the
only reply that can be made is of
such a nature that it turns them away
from Kingstree and to other towns.
The town is already overcrowded.
Yes, Kingstree's growth has stopped
unless the men of means in this
community do something to help divert
such a calamity. Our Building
v and Loan Association, seems to have
dropped out of the running, so far a.building
homes is concerned, yet the
Association is flourishing and capable
of supplying a portion of the demand
for new homes. No better service
could be done than for each ol
