Bfirmee Says Information Furniahed
is Not Sufficient?to Introduce
Bill.
Washington, Aug. 16.?In the interest
of all parties concerned, but
more especially to determine whether
ootton manufacturers are earning
more from the spinning of raw cotton
than is justified under present
high price conditions Representative
BymA, J South Carolina, who, a
day am two ago offered a resolution
calling upon the federal trade commission
for data on this line, said
that the information given him
A!U astiofftrtni"w mc far M it. Willi
was not sufficient
__ It is shown in the figures supplied
~ Mm- what it costs the cotton mills to
make the different kinds of cloth,
but there is nothing to show what
they get from it, aid it is the net
return, after other expenses are
met, that Mr. Byrnes wished to secure.
"I am going to introduce a
hill" Mr. Byrnes slid, "calling for
the enactment of a law which will
com pell the federal trade commission
to publish quarterly an itemised
statement from all cotton mills.
This will show what the mills paid
for raw cotton, what they paid
their selling agent, the cost of mill
help, and, finally, what they received
for the finished goods. It will
show in detail, how much the mill
help received, and what others received,
and from this will be determined
whether theie is fair play all
around or whether under present
circumstances warrant, wheti^ it
is the middleman or some one who
is profiteering.

Timely Farm Hints

r The business farmer who has a
checking account at the bank will
save enough money by not having to
bupr money orders, when he wishes
to order an article by mail, to make
the account profitable.
The corn is now low in the crib
and most of the grain oat of the
bins, so it is a good time to go after
the rats. Fight them with traps,
poisons, and all ether methods. It is
also a good time to think about making
these buildings permanently
proof against these rodents.
Now that the screen doors are
up?do they screen? Many screens
are only nominal, because they do
not fit and it is no trouble at all for
the flies to find a way to get in. The
judicious use of a few carpenter's
tools will often make misfitting
screens absolutely fly-proof.
Use the mower on the pasture to
keep the weeds down, as well as the
mattock and brier scythe to keep
down the briers and bushes. Some
shade trees in t' e pasture are excellent,
but smal. shrubs and brier
thickets simply rob the cattle of food
they ought to have. Wild plum thickets
are another very annoying thing
and may be classed as robbers.?
