A Plea Por Peace
Editor County Record:Because
-of the critical situation
throughout the country, the people
of both races, white and colored who
are law-abiding and have Christian
dispositions are much grieved. It
eems that there is an utter disregard
for law in many parts of the
country and souls are infested with
"legions" so much so, that some
people care not for God nor the lives
of men. Nearly every paper brings
, to us the heart-rending story of
outbreaks between the races, the
mad deeds of mem, the offense of
which smells rank to heavem.
My God how long? ?
Christians will you pray for Jesus
im His power to come down?
, Again, my God how long?
What can be done to check this
' evil growing out of the least provo- J
cations ? Both races got together and j
; worked to one common end for the j
winning of "tyie war and it was a de- j
| cided success. In the same way, I j
think that both races should call
meetings together and plan to uni
derstand one another better and live
| in peace together. Such meetings are
i now being held between white and
j colored in many places. We do not
anticipate any uuuuic usmwu .
races in Williamsburg county, because
there are as good white and '
colored people in this county as are
to be found anywhere in the States
and they get along well together. The
strong white man here will not take
advantage of the defenseless Negro.
The Negro ministry urges its people
to be careful, law-abiding, and to
give no cause for friction, but rather.
if need be. in the snirit of Christ,
give up their rights for peace-sake.
Yet in order that the good feelings
between the races here be maintained
and even made stronger, I suggest
that one of the white ministers
of the town call all of the ministers
of Williamsburg county White and
Colored for a conference.
