Girl Runs Snake Farm
The queerest farm in the Ozark
mountains in Missouri is that of
Miss Rose Ahren and her brother.
Henry. In the heart of the rockiest
part 4of the hPls, this brother and
sister operate what they call their
"diamond rattlesnake farm." Snakes
are plentiful, and the brother and
sister do a thriving business.
For three years the Ahrens have
been following this occupation, and
they will probably have 300 or 400
snakes to market this season. The

poison from the reptiles, which
is sold at high prices to doctors and
chemists. There is also a good revenue
from the sale of live reptiles to
museums and traveling shows.

The inventor has been aDie to produce
locomotion by using the resiliency
of rubber bands as a substitute
for muscular action. Of course it J
will not stroll away by itself, but
when led by the arm and swayed
gently from side to side, it gives a
very fair imitation of a promenade.
Handled with an acquired knack, it
readily bows and even executes a
few terpsichorean stens.
