Dr. Kennedy is well known in Kingstree and his old friends are g'ad to welcome him here. . Dr. W. L. Taylor, H. U. Kinder, Koger Mcintosh, T. E. Baggett, E. L. Hirsch, W. T. Wilkins, B. E. Clarkson, Dave Silverman, Memory Kellahan> Clarence Alsbrook, and J. D. Britton, went to Spartanburg on Tuesday afternoon for the Shriners Convention. Mrs. D. A. Montgomery, received ^ a message from her husband, Donald Montgomery, stating that he had^ landed in the States and would be to Cmp Mills. Mrs. Montgomery ** expects him in Kingstree in about one week. Mr. L. W. Dennis, who suffered a stroke of paralysis while in Kingstree some months ago, is recovering. Last Sunday he was able to I visit his neighbor, Mr. T. A. Johnson, about four miles from home, where he spent the day. >lr. B. R. Shuler of Eloree, is visiting his son, Mr. M. A. McDowell left Tuesday night for Atlanta, to attend the Southern Baptist Convention. There will be no preaching at the Baptist church here Sunday, as he will not return until next week. : A cool wave hit this section Monday night and continued through last night which was the coolest during the week. Rain has been i plentiful and tobacco is thriving in the fields, also grass. 'Indications are that a spell of clear and warmer! weather is at hand. Mr. M. R. Gass, of Winston-ftalem, X. C., is in town today on a business visit. Mr. Gass is a well j known tobacco man who several years ago was located here and worked hard to advance the import- ! ance of our tobacco market. He re- j turns this season to the management of the Gorrell warehouse. Miss Retha Burgess, who has been j on the sick list for the past ten days at the home of her sister, Mrs. R. D. Mills, is we are pleased tore- < port improveing. Her father and mother, of the Hebron section spent Sunday with her there. }. Messrs. W. B. Gamble, Joe Gamble, Charlie Heins, Duke and Gee, Misses Presley, Annie Belle Gamble, Pearl Nortan, Blanche Tisdale and Hessie Frierson, were the guests of Miss Mable Matthews on Thursday evening. Mr. George Bass of South Boston, J Va., is in Kingstree on business this week. Mr. Bafcs has been in the warehouse business here the past two seasons, operating the Gorrell warehouse one season and the Central last year. He is a fine fellow and good warehouseman. He has ' made many friends in this commu- i| nity who will be glad to know that j he will again be in the warehouse j business here this season. He and | W. T. Wilkins will be associated in the management of the Central warehouse. Mr. H. N. Sheppard of Bryan, who has been suffering severely ; from a bone felon on his right foot for two weeks was here several J times this week for treatment by ^ Dr. Kelley. C's Confederal* memorial day was observed her- last Saturday May 10, with the usual exercises, except in the ca-e of the old canon which remained quiet throughout the day. At the annual reunion of veterans, members of Camp Pressly, about 50 were present Saturday. The business of whom were present. Thebusiness meeting was held in the opera house and presided over by commander H. J. Brown, and old officers were reelected for the ensuing year. The social side of the meeting, un der the ausmces or the u. u. ^ s., was presided over by the Rev. W. I. Sinnott. and the address of the occasion was delivered by the Rev. J. G. Herndon, a most able and timely discourse it was. The nrize essay was read by Mr. Truluek, and the winner of the five dollar gold piece given by the U. D. C's., was won by Miss Nora Kinder, who won the prize last year in a similar contest. About 2 o'clock an excellent dinner was served the veterans by the U. D. C's., at the Kellahan warehouse. McElveen, of Kingstree. has written that he has seen in The Evening Posi that there is a Belgian boy in Charleston in need of a home and wants to know if there is any chance for him to adopt the boy. He promises a good home and a high school education to the little chap and offers excellent references, in case they are needed.
