Colored Red Cross Chapter. The colored i branch of the Red Croes chapter met Tuesday night, Rev Julius Holman presiding. It was a matter of regret that some white speaker was not present. Mrs A McFarlrnd was appointed captain of the west ward; Mrs F Swails.east ward; Rev H P Pressley, across the river; P Fulton and Mrs I Brockington,captains in other directions; Miss Minnie Salters to conduct juvenile work among the children of Tomlinson graded school. In spite of the bad weather, there was a good attendance and five new members were enrolled. Addresses were delivered by Rev R F Harrington and others. The following members paid their fee of $1: Revs Julius Holman, W L McFarland, Harry P Pressley, J S Greene, also A General,W A Brockington, Ed McAlister, R W Goodwine, John Woods. Cooly Kennedy, D L Fulton, Mesdames Annette Blakeley, Patsie Iloumaine, Flossie Swails, Anna N McFarland, Sarah Bay, Eugene Scott. f Arranging for Sunday-School Work Miss Milwee Davis, of Laurens, elementary superintendent of the State Sunday school association, was in Kingstree last Thursday to arrange a conference of the elementary workers of the county,to be held on February 9. On Saturday morning at 11 o'clock there will be a meeting at the office of Mr George A McElveen, president of the County SuDday-schoolassocia tion, of all county officers of the association for the purpoee of discussing plans for the annual county Sunday-school convention. Mr R D Webb, State secretary of the South Carolina Association, is expected to be present at this meeting. Mr. T. A.'Nettles Dead. Mr Thomas A Nettles of Salters, a brother of the late S A Nettles of this place, died Friday night at the home of W 0 Cain at Privateer, in Sumter county, where he was visiting. He had been in failing health for some time, but was apparently as well as usual when he retired. He was found dead at 7:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Mr Nettles,who was in his 69th year, was a native of the **?5?1 knt Ua/4 morlp hlA rnvaieer sccuuu ..?v. ? home in Sumter for some years. About a year ago he moved to Salters. He is survived by his wife and * the following children: Mesdames Mary Sparks and John C Chandler of Salters, McFaddin Spann of Florence, M E Haigler of Orangeburg, Miss Irma Nettles of Columbia. Mr L D Nettles of Alcolu, Mr Charles Nettles of Brooklyn. The deceased was a deacon in Grace Baptist church of Sumter. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home of J T China, and interment took place immediately afterward in the Sumter cemetery. Attention, County Teachers. We wouid be glad to near irom any of the teachers of Williamsburg county who are interested in the Junior Red Cross work, or who are desirous of organizing an auxiliary in their school.
