Annual Meeting of U. D. C. Chapter. |
The annual meeting of William^
burg chapter, U D C, was held at
the home of Mrs M[L Allen last Friday
afternoon. The attendanoe was
small but enthusiastic. The chapter
decided to take up some Red Cross
work this winter, namely, supplying
equipment for one patient in a Red
Cross hospital. To raise funds for
this worthy purpose, a Japanese bazar
will be held at the home of Mrs
W V Brockington December 4, to
which the ladies of the town will be
invited.
The following officers were elected
for the ensuing year: President and
registrar, Miss Agness 'Eickmann;
vice president, Mrs R K Wallace:
recording secretary, Mrs P G Gourdin;
corresponding secretary, Mrs
W E Brockinton; treasurer, Mrs T S
Hemingway; historian, Mrs W LeTaylor;
recorder of crosses, Mrs David
C Scott. Mrs Peter G Gourdin
was elected to represent the
chapter at the State convention in
Florence December 5. Mrs Taylor .
was chosen a volunteer delegate and
Mrs D P Frierson alternate.
The literary program consisted of
an article by 'Mrs L W Gilland on
the "Shenandoah" and the reading
of one of Father Ryan's po-ms by
Mrs J F McFadden.
The hostess served delicious chocolate
and cake.

Julius Taylor in Jail.
, Julius Taylor, the negro who as
saulted Mr and Mrs William Davis
in their home near Trio on the night
of October 5, an account of which
was published in The Record last
. week, was captured last Thursday
and brought to Kingstree by the
\ Sheriff of Georgetown. Taylor is
now in the county jail here under
the safe and tender care of Sheriff
Graham.

The fall session of Bovd school
opened September 24, in charge of
Miss Mattielou Bemis, of Union
county. There are about 25 pupils
enrolled.

D and brother, little Henry, were
guests of Miss Hattie Kirton near
here last Friday.
The teachers of Earles school,
Misses Lathan, Wingate, Allison and
Campbell, and Mr Charlton Camlin
attended the B Y P U of Spring
Gully Baptist church last Sunday
night.
Miss Lucile Boyd visited Miss
Hattie Kirton last week.
A few of the soldier boys from
here who went to Camp Jackson
have visited their home. All were
glad to see them.
Mr J K Marshail has purchased a
new car. /
Mr J J Marshall, who has been
quite ill, is improving.
