out of Germany, in spite of the
unusually close censorship, that the
German officials are telling theii
men and women that the American
troops will cut little figure in the
big war. If the German people
knew what they were up againsl
they would refuse to listen to such
foolish assertions.

they claim that Americans can'1
think quick enough. What a joke!

Sal ten, Aug 20?We are having
some much needed rain after the
hot, dry weather.
Cotton is opening very fast and
picking will begin next week. The
crop wiil be shorter than expected as
it has deteriorated considerably in
the past week.
Mr and Mrs W H Mclntyre and
little /laughter of Bennettsville are
visiting their aunt, Mrs J A Ferrell,
of this place.
Miss Harrell of Lanes yisited Miss
Leila Ferrell last week.
Miss Marguerite Layton of Florence
has returned after a pleasant
visit to Miss Carrie Moseley of this
place.
Mr J C Everett is in Marlboro this
week on business.
We were pleased to have with us
for a short while Friday Mr Brad

always glad to see him.

held quite an interesting meeting

Some of the folks here are busy
planting their fall gardens, and one
lady was heard to say that she expected
to have tomatoes until Christmas
unless a freeze comes, and if so,
