There was no service at the Methodist
church Sunday, Rev G T Harmon
being away on vacation. There
vas no morning service at the Episcopal
church, but Mr Jos R Walker
returned from Beaufort in time to
conduct evening prayer.
Mr J T Anderson of Atlanta, Ga,
ind Dayton,0, a most genial gentleman,
well known throughout the
country as a jewelers' special salesman,
is in Kingstree this week, enraged
with Mr T E Baggett, where
ie conduct8 two auction sales daily.
A charter was issued for the
Double Action Fertilizer Distributing
Company of Lake City. The com
pany will engage in the manufac
ture and sale of farm tools, implements
and merchandise. The capital
stock is $1,500. The officers are:

Singletary, vice president; Ashton H
Williams, secretary and treasurer.
Chief of Police J H Epps last week
noticed a young negro on the street
displaying an unusually handsome
and expensive gold watch?one that
the negro was not calculated to have
gotten honestly. Mr Epps confiscated
the watch which he soon afterwards
learned had been stolen from
a lady in Sumter. The watch was
returned to the chief of police of
Sumter who wrote Chief Epps a
letter of appreciation.
Mrs Floyd, who, with her husband,
resides in the McCabe building over
the Uwana Theatre, met with an
accident that might have proven
jerious, but fortunately only resulted
in a considerable shaking up with
a few external bruises. While Mrs
Floyd was leaning against the railing
of the little veranda jutting out
aver the drive way through the
court house yard, it gave completely
way, Mrs Floyd falling to the
iriveway some twenty or more feet
below.

Death of Mr. John W. Dennis. |
Mr J no \Y Dennis. Sr, a venerable
and respected citb:?-n of this place,
died at his home on West Main
street yesterday afternoon about 2
o'clock aftar a short illness from
pleurisy. Funeral services took
place at the home, conducted by the
Rev G T Harmon, assisted by Rev P
J S McChesney. Interment was made
in the Williamsburg cemetery at 11
o'clock this morning.
Mr Dennis was a veteran of the
war between the States, throughout
which he served the Confederacy
well and faithfully.
He is survived by his wife and six
children: one daughter, Mrs Eva
Bunch, Messrs J W, W S, W H, L S
and Oscar Dennis, all of this place.
The bankrupt stock of R W Lewis,
including furniture and fixtures, was
sold to the People's Mercantile Co
Monday by R K Wallace, Esq, trustee,
for $700.00.
