Death of Mrs R J Morris.
Krvan, August 2":?On Thursday.
August 1(>, Mrs H J Morris fell
asleep in Jesus, at the home of her
son, J B Morris, of the Bryan neighborhood.
Mrs Morris was befoie
her marriage Miss Martha Mel'ants
and was born, reared and spent the
whole of a long and useful life, sixty-eight
years, in the community of
her birth. Her passing away will
cause heartaches to many, with
whom she has so constantly endeared
hereself by useful service.
A few years after the civil war
she was married to Mr Robert James
Morris, a hero of the war, who preceded
her into the "great beyond"
several years ago.
The deceased is survived by five
sons, two sisters and three brothers.
Also many grandchildren.
Mrs Morris was a devoted wife
and mother and a loyal friend. In

was a member of the Methodist
church and leaves to many sorrowing
friends and relatives the comforting
assurance that she has but
gone to receive a crown of righteousness.
Since December Mrs Morris has
been in ill health, practically down
on her bed, yet in humble submission
she submitted to His will. Her
death was as the fading of a flower,
which drops its petals one by one
when the shadows darken, but will
bloom again in the garden of God.
The funeral services took place
Friday evening at Union Presbyterian
church, her pastor, the Rev

community extends deepest sympathy
to the sorrowing: ones and
commend them to Him who said,
"My grace is sufficient for thee."

They are expected to return today,
accompanied by Miss Daisy Moore.
Mrs Fannie Bryan and Mrs Ulmer
spent last Sunday at the home of
Mr H E Ogburn.
Miss Dottie McGill of Kingstree
spent last week with Miss Bessie
Register.
On Wednesday night of last week
Miss Bessie Register gave quite an
oninvnhlp "nindpr nonnin'. " Quite
a number of visitors were present
and enjoyed a very pleasant evening,
with plenty of delicious peanuts.
Miss Annie Ogburn has returned
home.
Misses May Htnnant and Mary
Long spent a few days here last
week.
Messrs J W Welch, Tom McNorton
and Mr and Mrs J M Carson
and children are expected Tuesday
night. The men folk are anticipating
a number of fox chases while
here.
Mrs T S Carter has Deen visiting
her daughter, Mrs Jno Rowell.
. Mr and Mrs J W Lockliear spent
last week end at St Stephens.
Messrs W T Rowell and J B McCants
have gone to Columbia.
Mr Archie Graham and children
of Columbia spent last week in and
around Trio.
Miss Mittie Moore has returned
home, accompanied by Miss Abbie
Smith.
Mrs Brown is visiting her sister,
Mrs J L Graham.
Quite a number of farmers are to
begin picking cotton in a few days.
RAID ON RESTAURANTS.
Pennsylvania Troops Clean Up Danville
Hasheries.
Richmond, Va, Aug 20:?Troops
said to be from Pottsville and Scranton.
Pa, passing Danville last night
had a layover of 20 minutes. Five
hundred soldiers swarmed up town,
invaded two restaurants, and virtually
wiped out everything in them.
Nothing was paid for. The men
are said to have stood on the counters
and walked on the tables in a
mad effort to secure food.
Pies, melons, bunches of bananas,
bozes of chewing gum and tobacco,
to say nothing of bread, were seized
and carried off. The single policeman
on duty was powerless. The

strated was knocked down. Both
restaurants looked as though a
swarm of locusts had passed through
when the men, answering bugles,
hastened to catch the train. The
companies are said to have been
identified and a claim will be sent to
the government,
