War Meals on the Diners.
Patrons outlining cars will find a
number of changes when they go to
order their meals in the future as a
result of resolutions adopted by the
special committee on national defense
of the American Railway Association.
Here are some of the innovations:
Tarts instead of pies.
Only cornbread, corn muffins, rye
bread, oat cakes or buckwheat cakes
for breakfast and luncheon.
No toasted wheat bread to be served
under chops, squabs, entrees or
game.
No veal, lamb, squab chicken or
squab turkey.
Small portions of bread, butter,
meats, milk, cream and sweets.
These and other food-saving rules
were worked out in conference between
Herbert C Hoover and representatives
of the commissary departments
of the railroads.

gestion made by the president of the
Railway Dining Car Superintendents'
Association. They were submitted to
the advisory committee on elimination
of the food administration.
The rules will apply to dining cars
all over the country.
Good Advice For KingstJee, Too.
"At the present season," said Dr
Godwin, health officer, "we are blessed
in abundance with certain foods
of more or less value.
"Among the most plentiful now
are watermelons and cantaloupes, or
they appear to be. If you will spend
a few minutes looking around your
own neighborhood, watermelons and
cantaloupes rinds can be seen almost
anywhere, except in garbage cans or
other receptacles. Many people do
not realize the fact that such negligence
may cause untold sickness in
the vicinities where these rinds are
distributed. Consumers of these particular
foods are urged to deposit
the rinds in containers and keep them
covered. Do not allow the containers
to remain uncovered as they are dangerous.
Place the garbage in a spot
easily accessible to the city garbage
carts, and the containers will be emptied
often. The active cooperation of
the people of Florence in this respect
is earnestly urged, and will be highly
appreciated by the city health department.?
Florence Times.
Twelve new county Superintendents
of Education have just entered
upon their duties in this State.
The war department has assigned
the New York troops of the National
Guard to Spartanburg, and the
Carolina and Tennessee men to
Greenville, for training.
