The Railroad Commission has refused
for the present the petition of
'he Atlantic Coast Line to withdraw
trains 46 and 47, between Sumter
and Florence,via Lanes, and will give
the matter further consideration.
Dr C D Jacobs has been out of
town this week.having gone to Gaffney
to spend several days with his
family,who have been there for several
weeks with Mrs Jacobs' parents.
They are expected to return home
this evening.
M H Wall, a colored farmer in the

7 he planted a patch of Adams Extra
Early corn, that on June 7 she
corn was fit for table use and that
he expects to have some of it ground
into meal on July 7.
While away on his vacation last

South Carolina Baptist Summer assembly

Mr J E Reeves,who has been with
the Scott Drug Co for the past three j
years, has resigned his position and
left Monday for Bishopville, where
he will visit for a few days before
going to Macon, Ga. Mr Reeves has
made many friends here, who regret
to see him leave.

of much gratification to his numerous
friends to note that he has regained
his health and says he never
felt better.

The Ladies Missionary society of
the Methodist church will hold a
Scarrett meeting on Tuesday, July
10, at 4:30 p. m. in the Sundayschool
rooms of the Methodist
.church. Addresses will be made by
two Scarrett graduates, one speaking
in the interest of home mission
work and the other on foreign rtiission
work. The ladies of other denominations
are cordially invited to
attend.

will learn w;th regret that she
expects to leave Kingstree in a few
days for another field of labor. Miss
Culp is very proficient in her profession,
energetic and always pleasant
and accommodating. She gives up
her position here to accept a more
lucrative one as bookkeeper in a
bank at Bennettsville. The Record
wishes her much success in whatever
vocation she may become engaged.
Potato raisers in Charleston county
realized $4,000,000 from this
year's crop, which was $1,500,000
above their anticipations.

Mr R B Smith entered upon his
duties as County Treasurer Monday,
succeeding Mr J Wesley Cook, who
has held that office about ten years.
The proprietors of Nelson's warehouse
are installing a new automatic
platform scales of the latest improved
type, which will greatly facilitate
them in weighing ahd handling their
patrons' tobacco this season. The
addition of several thousand feet of
floor space to this warehouse will
also be abig advantage to its patrons.
Dr R J McCabe, Dentist, will be
at Hemingway Monday, July 9, to
remain one week. It

No 1, under the supervision of Mrs
W E Brockington, will have a trip
around the world tomorrow (Friday)
evening, from 7:30 to 9:30, at the
