Dr Leroy Cates, the popular manager of the Kingstree Drw Co, left Tuesday morning for a short sojourn at Glenn Springs with a view to recuperating his rundown health. Messrs Geo Bass, J A Kersey, E L Morgan, C E Johnson, E J Hester and G W Ramsey, tobacco men, are among those whose presence we note in Kingstree. Mr R B Scoggins, representative of W T Tea & Co of South Boston, Va, independent tobacco buyers, arrived in Kingstree yesterday and will be ready to go on our market the opening day. According to the Sunday-school Reporter, Williamsburg county has 59 Sunday-schools, with a membership of 4267,an increase of 491 within the year. There were 123 additions to the church within that time. Messrs Morgan and Nesmith announce in this paper that they will conduct the Central Warehouse here this season as proprietors. Both these gentlemen are too well known to the readers of The Record to need commendation here. Mr Jackson VMcEKeen has moved his family to Kingstree and they now occupy the Jennings house in North Kingstree. Mr McElveen will assume his duties as county Superintendent of Education July 1, succeeding Mr J G McCullough. The Atlantic Coast Line has applied to the Railroad Commission for permission to withdraw trains 46 and 47, between Sumter and Florence via Lanes. An extensively signed petition will be presented from Kingstree praying for the continuance of these trains. Mr Wm Epps returned home Sat- I urday evening from Washington, I where he attended the old soldiers' I reunion. Mr Epps met a number of I war comrades and greatly enjoyed the exercises incident to the meeting, which was, perhaps, one of the i greatest of the kind ever held at the national capital.
