their homes Tuesday, having been1
mustered out of service at Columbia.

Three Fires Sunday.
Last Sunday was a typical March
i day here,with a steady wind blowing
| from early morning until late at
j night. There were three fires dur-1
! ing the day. The alarm was first
I sounded about 2 a. m., occasioned
by the burning of two adjoining
cottages on the east side of Railroad
avenue. Tnese were totally destroyed,
while two others nearby were
saved by the fire department.
About 3 p. m. the house of Mr H
D Reddick in the Nelson addition,
occupied by Mr and Mrs R W Lewis,
was discovered to be on fire. The
department responded quickly, and
saved the house with only slight
damages to the roof, where the fire
originated from a defective flue.
Mr Lewis' furniture was considerably
"done up" in a hurried effort
to get It out of the house.
About 6 o'clock the alarm was
again sounded on account of tne old
cotton seed house of the Southern
Cotton Oil Company catching on fire.
The building was saved with very
slight damage.
Dr Robert J McCabe will be out
of town Monday, March 26. and his
i dental office will be closed.
