anywhere in the country and high
prices should not be attributed to
the present freight congestion, it
was stated by the Interstate Commerce
commission and railroad authorities
today. Reports indicated
that all localities are supplied with
adequate stocks of living necessities
for immediate domestic consumption,
and the tie-up on railroads will
improve steadily.

ago, since good weather and a suspension
of spring over yesterday's
holiday permitted railroads to rush
hundreds of empty freight cars

largely with foodstuffs destined for
consumption in the east or for export,
bu t both the Interstate Commerce
commission and the Car Service
commission of the American
Railway association are seeking to
give preference in car allotments to
goods for domestic needs, rather

On February 10, 165,274 cars,
loaded and empty, were involved in j
the freight congestion, having increased
by more than one-third in
two weeks, the commission's report
showed
Chicago's lack of empty cars for
eastbound shipments is no greater
proportionately than in other localities.
According to the commission,
whose reports show that city has received
200 cars daily, half of these
were U3ed for export grain.

nation wide movement to organize
women for war service was planned
here today at a mass meeting callc u
by the National American Suffrage
association addressed by Secretary
Baker and attended by Secretaries
Daniels and McAdoo. A note adopted
by the executive council of the

Wilson says: I
"We devoutly hope and pray that
our country's crisis may be passed
without recourse to war. We declare
our belief that the settlement
of international difficulties by bloodshed
is unworthy of the 20th century
and our confidence that our
government is using every honor,
able means to avoid conflict. If.
however, our nation is drawn into
the maelstrom., we stand ready to
serve our country."
The statement added that the association
had "no intention of laying
aside our constructive, forward work
to secure the vote for the womanhood
of this country."
To unify the efforts of all women's
organizations and cooperate with
government authorities the associations
plans to form a central committee
composed of representatives
from "each national organization of
women willing to aid in war work if
the need arises." The suffrage association
itself expects to establish a
bureau to work out plans for employing
women in positions left vacant
by men who might go to war.

It has been decided that President
Wilson will take his new oath of
office in private in the White House
ou Sunday, March 4. Whether he
will ^ake it again at the public ceremony
on March 5 or merely make
that the occasion for delivering his
inaugural address has not been decided.

Taylor-Bryant Wedding.
Andrews, February 22:?One of;
the prettiest and most interesting1
events of the season here, was the
wedding of Mrs Oshana Taylor of
Andrews, K fr' D l, ano Mr t l
Bayant of Morrisville, R F D 1, j
which was solemnized at 7 o'clock:
Thursday evening at the home of |
the bride. The color scheme was j
effectively carried out in the decora- j
tions of the reception hall. Festoons
of smilax intermingling with pink
and white roses and carnations were
used. The drawing room was decorated
in white and green, only
bride roses and white chrysanthemums
being employed with smilax.
Here was an improvised altar formed
of palms and ferns lighted with
white candles. The guests were
welcomed at the door by Mrs Mapbelle
Orvin, of St Stephens, a sister
of the bride. The bride entered
with her brother, Mr Henry Browder,
preceded by her maid of honor,
Miss Lutisher Barfield, and bridesmaids,
Misses Ethel Cox and Mary
Ellen Browder, who were gowned in
white silk crepe de chine with over
dress of plaited tulle, carrying bouquets
of pink bride roses. The
bride was lovely in a gown of blue
charmeuse. The veil was arranged
I to fall over here face and to the end
of her train, caught to her hair with
sprays of orange blossoms. Her
bouquet was of bride roses and
lilies of the valley. The bridegroom
was attended by his nephew. John
Cox, as best man. The ceremony
was performed by the Rev M E
Powell.
Those attending from other points
were as follows: Mrs Ida Barfield
and daughter, Miss Lutisher Barfield,
and Mr A K Browder, all of
Lanes; Miss Mary Ellen Browder of
Sumter, Miss Craig Hyatt of Lake
City, Miss Liney Godwin of Scranton.
Mrs Maybelle Orvin of St
Stephens, Mr Monevy Ard of Leo,
Misses Lena and Bessie Sports of
Morrisville.
Mr and Mrs Bryant will be at
home after a short trip and will be

Test Your Eggs for Hatcblng.
Before placing a great number of
eggs in en incubator for hatching
they should be tested for fertility:
that is, some of them should be tried
under hens to see if a good per cent
of them are fertilized and strong
enough to hatch well. If they are j
not good it is time something should J
be done to remedy the matter.'
Change meals for a time, at least,
and see if that does not remedy the
trouble. Very often you are not
feeding enough green stuff, or your
hens are too closely confined and do
not get the proper exercise. It
takes the pink of condition and a
good deal of exercise upon the part
of both the male and the female to
give us the best of eggs for hatching.
Many of us do not realize this and
for that reason our eggs fail to give
us good lively chicks in sufficient
