CEDAR SWAMP JOTTINGS.
Popular Young People Wed-Mr.
Godbold Makes Fine Impression
Cedar Swamp, December 19:?Mr
Maxie Clifford Hemingway and Miss
Hessie Ruth McCullough, led by Mrs
Erin Grayson and Mrs Marvin Mc-j
Cullough, approached the hymeneal I
altar at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon
in the home of Mr J S McCullough,
# to the soft, rhythmic strains of Lohengrin's
wedding march, rendered
by Miss Sadie Snowden. The bride
, and groom 9tood beneath an artistically
arranged arch of mosses and
evergreen interspersed with lighted
candles,which, with numerous others
in the darkened room, gave out a
silvery glow that enhanced the beauty
and solemnity of the marriage
occasion. Rev A E Riemer, by the
authority vested in him and in the
name of the State of South Carolina,
in an impressive manner pronounced
the words that made them man and
wife.
The young, popular and attractive
bride was becomingly attired in a
beautiful dark blue dress, wearing a
white hat and accessories to match.
She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs
John S McCullough, of this place.
Mr Hemingway is a progressive
young business man of Nesmith.
The marriage was a quiet affair, the
near relatives and a few intimate
friends being present.
After the ceremony a delightful
supper was served,the beautiful and
"useful presents of the newly married
couple were viewed and then the
farewell to homefolk was said, for
soon the happy pair sped away to
Nesmith, their future home, where
they will realize
"The joys of marriage are the heaven
on earth,
Life's paradise,great princess, the soul's
quiet,
Sinews of concord, earthly immortality,
Eternity of pleasure."
The large congregation at the
Methodist church wa? delighted with
the earnest and edifying introductory
sermon of the new pastor, Rev
T W Godbold.last Sunday afternoon.
Notwithstanding the very inclement
weather last Friday evening, the
hot supper at the school building
was a success. The home folk appreciate
very much the attendance of
visitors from Trio, Bryan and Kingstree.
The approaching Yuletide will, we
hope, be observed as Christmas day
was intended tot be, and when the
season shall have passed, let there be
done or said nothing that shall cause
regret. Here is hoping to The Record's
faithful force and to the gen
tie readers many happy returns.

Rev W A Fairy Welcomed.
Laurens, Dec 17:?Welcoming services
were held at the First Methodist
Church this evening for the new
pastor, the Rev W A Fairy. There
were no services at the other city
churches, the pastors and congregations
of each attending and participating
in the formal welcome to the
new Methodist minister. The Rev
C F Rankin, of the Presbyterian 1
Church, and the Rev Samuel H Templeman.tof
the Baptist Church, speaking
for themselves and their congregations,
spoke words of hearty welcome
to the new pastor anu his family.
In a ve-y p'easing vein Mr Fairy
responded to the warm words of welcome,
pledginghis best effurtstoward
the progress of the work here.

The Farmer's Opportanlty.
I feel assured that the farmers
of this section are naturally blue on |
account of the great disaster that i
befell them last summer in the loss
of most of their crops, and that they
are beginning to ngure upon what j
money crops to plant that will bring
to them the greatest remuneration
the coming year. Of course that is
hard to tell with absolute certainty. j
My candid belief, however, is, it is j
your golden opportunity to plant to-1
bacco. I do not believe the prospects
were ever better for good prices for
tobacco than for the coming crop.
There are two reasons for this: the
past two years the crop has been
short.especially in the bright tobacco
belt. On the other hand, never since
the tobacco industry was introduced
has the demand been so great as it
is now. Hence you can see that it
does not take any argument to convince
you that there must be good ^
prices for the coming crop.
Do not let the high prices for cot- j
ton fool you into planting your entire
money crop in that lone staple, ,
for it is an assured fact that the entire
South is going to plant cotton as
it never planted before. Therefore
it is easy to see where, with a
fair yield, the price will go on the 1
other hand for years. * Plant tobacco,
hay. hominy and a little cotton, < (
and success is yours. Incidentally,!
I will say that I will be on the mar- ^
ket again to help you to realize the
big prices that we have been talking 1
about. The Tobacco Board of Trade
has agreed to spend $100 for seed,
and you can get them from Mr W
K Mcintosh. I will have a lot of
seed at W E Jenkinson's and J M
Brown's stores. 1
South Carolina can produce fifty \
million pounds. Stili, in my opinion ]
you will receive the greatest price i
you have possibly ever gotten. This j
is not my judgment alone, but the i
consensus of opinion of all tobacco <
people in touch with the situation. F
To sum up the whole matter: A 1
good crop of tobacco and a fair sea- i
son you will reap the greatest har- \
vest you have ever known. c
Having been in your county for c
five seasons,I am naturally solicitous
that the coming year you may have
abundant returns. c
