shooting. Burdine fled to his home

Repairs to the German submarine]

when she sank a tug convoying her
last Friday, will be completed within
a few days, and the craft is expected
to start her second homeward

James Poag McMurry, a bank
cashier at Rock Hill, was almost instantly
killed when his automobile
collided with a horse and huegy Sunday
while enroute to his home at
York. The front of the machine1
passed safely, but the rear struck I
the horse, breaking a leg of the animal,
smashing the right front wheel
and damaging the, rear of the ma- i
chine. The negro driver was thrown
out, hut not seriously hurt. The'
machine was found some 100 feet
farther up the road, with Mr McMurray
sitting in his natural position

a Greek Sculptor.
Three long promontories, projecting
tridentwise from that southwestern
corner of Thrace, known as
the Chalcidice, prick the north
edge of the Aegean like a little
Greece. The westernmost reaches
past Olympus and makes the lower
part of the gulf of Saloniki. The
easternmost, pointing toward Lemnos

Athos is a steep wooded ridge five
to ten miles wide, terminating some
forty miles seaward in the peak that
gives the peninsula its name.
This solitary marble cone, rearing
