We are glad to learn that Mrs M
L Guess, who has been quite sick
here at her mother's. Mrs T R Johnson,
is improving.
Among those who took in the
county fair from here were: Messrs
Theodore and Grover Johnson, Mrs
H K Browder and daughter, Mrs
Orvin, Master Eddie Barfield, Mr H
K Browder and little brother, Ernest.
They reported a grand time.
Mr Boneau Browder and wife are
spending a few days in Georgetown
this week.
Mr H K Browder and brother,
Warren, are in Kingstree today on
business.
Mrs Susie Powell of North Carolina
is visiting her father, Mr Brunson
Davis, of this place.
Miss Gracie Turner, of this place,
is spending a few days at Bonneaus

He was in search of a man who, it
is said, has his, Dr Johnson's, horse
and buggy and some money. The
doctor found his horse and buprsry at
Timmonsville. The man and money
are still at large. However, proceedings
were instituted to keep the
man from being too much at large.
Mr R K Wallace, one of the new
jwners of The Record, was here

Dr and Mrs Jennings came down
Sunday and took Mrs S M Sturgeon

Drunkenness seems to be on the

Friday night.
There is some agitation for an)ther
flour mill at Lake City. We
nave heard seyeral declare that an)ther
1s needed, and unless it be
puilt, the growing of wheat will not
nerease in this section, but, on the
ontrary, will grow less probably,
\t least a thousand acres will be
sowed this fall, and facilities for
:urning the crop into flour should
ae furnished. The growing of wheat
should be, by all means, encouraged,
not discouraged. Whenever the
farmer can live at home, he will
prosper.
Mr Wade J Dendy, former editor
of the Clinton Gazette, and one of
the best known editors in the State
passed into the great beyond last
Thursday night.

Commission Meets In Columbia
Today to Discuss Mctfeods.
Plans for combating the advance
of the Mexican boll weevil in South
Carolina will be discussed today at a :
meeting of the South Carolina boll

weevil commission in Columbia. The
call for the meeting was issued by,
W M Riggs? president or Clemson j
college. The meeting will.be held i
at the Jefferson hotel beginning ati
noon.
This will be the first meeting to
be held by the commission since its\
return from the trip through the
weevil States of the South. At:
Brookhaven, Miss, the commission
held a conference of several hours'
length at which a temporary or preliminary
report was adopted as to
the probable effect of the weevil or.
South Carolina. At the conference
today a full report will be made and
plans will be outlined for beginning
immediately a campaign in mis
State to check the advance of this
much dreaded insect or to effectually
combat it upon arrival.
