Hon R H Kellahan's house on Mill
street lately vacated by Mr S A Nettles
is undergoing repairs. We understand
that it will be occupied by

of President Wilson, an offering
will be taken in the Presbyterian
church next Sunday morning for the
war sufferers in Armenia, Syria,

The home of Mr and Mrs A W
Mitchell of Bethera was totally destroyed
by fire last week. Only a
portion of the family apparel was
saved. Mrs Mitchell is a daughter of
Mr and Mrs J T Sexton, of this community.
Mrs E G Jacobs entertained at a
beautiful buffet luncheon Wednesday
in honor of Miss Nelia Damour,
a popular autumn bride. About six

Thomas opera house Thursday night
of last week. The music by the

black-faced comedian.
Mr and Mrs D E McCutchen and
Miss Lilly Cunningham attended the
funeral of Mrs S Murray McLeotf at
Sumter Tuesday. Mrs McLeod before
marriage was Miss Jennie Chandler
and a first cousin of Mrs McCutchen
and Miss Cunningham.
Mr B Warren Moore, a prominent
farmer and merchant of this county, i
died unexpectedly last Friday morn- i
ing at his home at Moore's X Roads.
Mr Moore was between 50 and 60
years of age and a most worthy citizen.
Heart trouble was the cause of
aeatn.
Mr George Stackley of Florence
was seized with an attack of vertigo
last week at the same time that his
brother. Postmaster Louis Stackley
of Kingstree, was taken with a similar
complaint. We are pleased to
know that both gentlemen have re'covered.
' There is a June apple tree on the
place of Mr J T Sexton, just north
) of Kingstree, which bore two crops
of fine fruit this year. The regular
June apples came along in proper
season and last week it was reported
to us that the tree bore a second,
though small,crop of fine apples that
had matured from blooms borne in
August.
Dr F H McLeod of Florence was

i the critical illness of Hon R H Kellahan,
who was taken to the McLeod
infirmary yesterday, where it is expected
that he will undergo an operation
for gall stones. While in
Charleston Mr Kellahan was placed
j under an X ray which revealed, be'
yond a doubt, the chief cause of his
suffering.
A telegram from Atlanta. Ga, was
received here by Mr S A Nettles
Tuesday morning conveying the news
of the death of his sister, Mrs Sallie
I Plowden, wife of Mr W H Plowden,
of that city. Mrs Plowden's death
J occurred Monday night,and the news
of her death came as a shock to her
| many relatives and friends in this
! community, among whom she had so
| pleasantly visited early in Septem!
ber.
Beginning Monday, October 23,
the week will be observed as a week
of prayer services by the women of
theMethodist church. These services
will be held in the Sunday-school
room of the church iat 4 p. m. and
will be conducted Monday by Mrs
Rosa Fulton, Tuesday by Mrs Belle
Blakely, Wednesday by Mrs Marion
A Ross, Thursday by Mrs D P Frierson
and Friday by Mrs J P Adatns.
At the conclusion of the regular service
Thursday afternoon an address
will be delivered by Miss Leila Epps,
who recently returned from the mission
field of Brazil. The public is invited
to attend these services.
Mr Geo A McElveen, president of
the Williamsburg County Sundayschool
association,handed us the copy
of a letter he has this week addressed
to each of the several district
presidents urging them to make all
necessary arrangements for the big
Rally Day occasion October 29. In
this letter the district presidents are
not only urged to be present, but
also each of the individual schools in
his district. Mr R D Webb and Miss
Agnes Ravenel, prominent Sundayschool
workers, will be present at
this meeting,and indications point'to

carried a shower bouquet of bride's
