charge of the teachers and was open- g
ed by a vocal solo by Miss Barbee., ^
Miss Dunbar read an interesting ?
article by Prof Hand, after which j,
the business of the afternoon was f
taken up. A committee was ap- p
pointed to interview the doctors in c
order to start medical inspection at ^
once, the consent of nearly all par- ^
ents having been given last year. A ^
committee was also appointed to ask j
the trustees for funds to put up a
swings and see-saws for the younger ^
children on the grounds and to peti- ^
don them to take down the spiked c
iron fence so dangerous to climbing
youngsters and put up a low coping ]
instead.
Miss Elizabeth Heape was elected
to fill the vacancy of secretary, the
position having been formerly held
by a member of the faculty who did *
not return this year. 1

Mock Marriage Performed at
Court House Tuesday Night.
Williamsburg's venerable temple
)f justice was thronged Tuesday
wening, but the traditional solemni-'
:y that pervades a courtroom was
joticeably absent. The occasion was'
:he "wedding" of Mr W T Wilkins
md Dr R Claude McCabe, and all
he actors were of the sterner sex.
^fter the entrance of the members
)f the "family", Mr W H Carr sang

^romise Me". Miss Mabel Harper
endered the wedding march, Mri
David Silverman accompanying on'
he violin. The wedding party then
ntered, each appearance being the
;ignal for shouts of laughter and I
hunders of applause. When the,
lappy couple appeared before the
jfficiating minister, "Rev" J J B;
Montgomery, that gentleman began
he baptismal office, under the im-1
iression that the groom was the |
iride's son. The best man, Mr LC
Dove, had great difficulty in convincing
him that the occasion was a
vedding, not a baptism.
The minister, with a mercenary ,
ipirit unworthy of his cloth, denanded
his fee of $2 in advance.
[tie hapless groom had but $1 and
irotested, "That's all it's worth," '
>ut the minister was unyielding,
iowever, the bride came to the res- ,
:ue with the other dollar and the
?remony was performed in Mr
Montgomery's inimitably droll style.
Vhen the challenge was given to
hose having objections, Mr M L
Ulen, "sister" of the groom, obected
on the ground that she, being
he elder, should be married first,
>ut he haughtily repulsed her, and
he retired, weeping bitterly. The 1
eremony was then concluded and
ongratulations extended.

Clifford's Show Worth the Money?At
Opera House Tonight.
Rillie (Single) Clifford comes to
South Carolina every year and he always
blows into Columbia for a Saturday
night. This year his vehicle
was called "Linger Longer Lucy".
Hillie Clifford presented familiar
faces, and ones that the audience
were glad to see, when the Weston
sisters. Mae Ginger Collins and Nick
Glynn were included in the cast.
Clifford doesn t claim to have the
best show in the world nor does he
claim it to be any great, stupendous
production. But Clifford does claim
that he presents a varied and pleasing
programme?something extra?
for the prices of admission. "Linger
Longer Lucy" was worth the money.
Nick Glynn, who has pleased Columbia
audiences before, pleased
again. lie is one of the cleverest
blackface comedians on the stage today.
The Weston sisters presented
an attractive and versatile programme,
jepeating former successes
in Columbia, and Mae Ginger Collins
was her same self, distinctly Mae.
She was especially good in her singing
of "I've Got a Sweet Tooth". The
audience would have liked to have

she did here a year ago. Billie Clifford
renewed old acquaintances and
strengthened old ties, and Columbia
will welcome him and his company
