nounce the serious illness of Mr S A
Nettles, who was suddenly Strieker
down yesterday morning. H% condition
is somewhat improved this
morning.

that Rev P S McChesney will return
to Kingstree this week and occupy
his pulpit at.the Presbyterian church
Sunday morning, at which time the
regular quarterly communion services
will be held.
Rev Harold Thomas of Florence
visited the Episcopal church here
Tuesday. At 8 a. m. he celebrated
thu nnlv nnmmnnion and at 8 D. m.
read evening prayer, delivering masterly
and inspiring addresses at both
services. Deeply interested congregations
were present.
"Aunt" Ann Owen, who is well
known in Kingstree by her size, and
who bears a reputation for being s
worthy, reliable and excellent farmer,
was in town this week and informs
us that she picked out two
bales of cotton last week. Ann owns
her farm,which is west of town, and
has a big,husky son to help her work
it, and who seems proud of theii
crop.
Don't fail to see the first, last and
only post series game of the Pee Dee
to be played here tomorrow (Friday)
afternoon between the "Green Liz
ards' and the "White Elephants."
The frame will be called at 4:30 p,
m. at the ball grounds. There will
be plenty of free red lemonade and
ample police protection has been arranged
for. Mr F W Fairey is manager
of the teams and the line up,
if nothing more, will be well worth
witnessing.
Without much effort Lamar tool<
two games from the Kingstree baseball
team here Monday afternoon
and left, that evening for Dillon,
where they defeated the Dillon nine
Tuesday, which concluded the championship
in the last half of the Pee
Dee league series for Lamar. The
first half of the series was won by
Dillon and that team and Lamar will
contest for the pennant in a series of
three games to be played in the near
future at Florence.
Monday evening members of the
Kingstree baseball team were entertained
at a lawn fete at the home of
their president, L W Gilland, Esq.
Mrs Gilland presided as hostess and
was assisted by Mrs P 0 Arrowsmith
and other ardent lady fans of the
town. The lawn was attractively
lighted, and comfortable seats were
arranged about the yard for guests.
Quiet games were indulged in, and
delicious refreshments were served.
The occasion was highly enjoyed by

Mr A D L liarksdale of Greenville,
agency manager of South Carolina's
leading life insurance company,
the Southeastern, was a visitor
to Kingstrec Monday and Tuesday
in company "ith Mr J B Aiken,
general agent, of Florence. These
gentlemen came down to look over
the situation, iron a life insurance
standpoint, and returned very much
encouraged over the prospects for a
good fall and winter business in
spite of the damage wrought by the
recent floods and storm. Mr I A
Calhoun, district manager for the
Southeastern in this section, reports
quite a revival in bunness during
the past week.
Dr R J McCabe has returned from
Andrews and can now be l'ound at
his Kingstree office, where lie will
remain till Satirdav, September 16.

Mrs W C Rogers, beloved wife of
Dr W C Rogers of Dunbarton, died
at that place Monday night after

Mrs Rogers was the daughter of
Mr Percy D Snowden of the Indian[
town section and was about twenty,
three years of age. She was married
to Dr Rogers in February, last
year. Death occurred during par>
turition The deceased was a noble
i young woman and a host of friends
1 in Williamsburg are sorely aggriev;
ed over her untimely demise.
The corpse was brought to Kingstree
Tuesday night and remained in
I the home of Mr J N Hammet over
, night. Wednesday morning Mrs
I Rogers, with her first born babe at
her side, was tenderly laid to rest in
> the cemetery of the Indiantown
Presbyterian church, and in the vij
cinity where she was born, reared
I and spent her young life prior to her
marriage.
Funeral and burial services were
conducted by the pastor, Rev Mr

nott.in the presence of a large gathering
of sorrowing relatives and
: friends. Dr Rogers is a son of Mr

pathy is felt for him by friends in
