annual commencement of the Old
Johnsonville Graded and High school!
May 21-23, was enjoyed by numbers
oflihople from almost eyery part c4
Williamsburg county.
The Rev. Mr Derrick of Summerton
delivered the commencement
sermon in the Old Johnsonville

ing to a large and appreciative congregation.
The music for this occasion,
rendered by the school and
superintended by Mrs A D Jones,
was perfect.
On Monday evening an operetta:
"Florinda, or fie Rose and Pearl",
was presented in the auditorium of
the new school building. Two choruses
by the school girls, instrumental
music by Mrs A D Jones and
Miss Christine Newell and readings
by little Misses Clarice Huggins and
Lena Davis helped to make the evening's
programme a delightful
one.
On Tuesday evening carefully prepared
essays were read by the members;
of the graduating class as fol- 3
lows: Salutatory, Sue Ifcrmon; History,
Butterfield Newell; Will, Nita (
Cox; Statistics, Nina Cox; Prophecy, ,
Miller Hughes; Valedictory, Blon- ,
dell ttockfield. A wealth of flowers
and presents were placed at the feet j
of the proud graduates by the marshal]*;.

ly, Beth Ginn, Sadye Springs, Verna ,
Ard and Rena Cox. A vocal quar- j
tette was beautifully rendered by

ell, Bessie Huggins and Mrs A D j
Jones. Hon R A Cooper of Laurens
addressed the audience and graduat- ,
ing class quietly, but very impress- ,
ively, and the Rev P B Ingraham ,
also gave a short talk.
Hon R A Cooper presented medals ,
to the following pupils: scholarship
medal, Clarice Huggins; mathematics,
Sadye Springs; history, Adry (
Lewis; attendance and deportment, ,
Milter Hughes; attendance and de- <
portment, Beth Ginn; spelling,Sadye
Springs, Iva Cox and Adry Lewis.

Rev P B Ingraham completed the
programme.
One of our teachers, Miss Christine
Jewell, was married on Wednesday,
May 24, to Mr DeLeon Poston
of Salem. The marriage was a
surprise to the many friends of the
young couple.
Miss Bessie Huggins is yisiting
relatives in Florence.
