Four-year-old Viola Frazier,daughter
of Mr and Mrs Odell Frazier oi
Florence, was burned to death at
the home of its grandparents in
Bennettsville Monday afternoon.

Chas W Crosland, a brother of E
W Crosland, late of Kingstree, died
at Gibson, N C, Sunday. His bods
was taken to Bennettsville,his native
town, for interment. He was 48
years of age.

Probably the most hotly contested
baseball game ever played in South
Carolina was at the Charleston navj
yard Sunday, when in 14 innings the
Nationals defeated the Eagles by the
score of 4 to 3.

convene at New Orleans next week.

Carolina are Drs Henry N Snyder of
Wofford college and Robert Wilson,
Jr, of Charleston.

By W K Vanderbilt's donation of
$11^500, the necessary amount has
been secured for the erection of a
tuberculosis hospital at Aiken, and
work will be started at once. It is
hoped to have it in operation by the
fall.

1 ^ A negro being tried on a charge
of having attacked a 13-year old
white girl at Idabel, Oklahoma, Monday
was seized by a mob of several
hundred men after listening to the
evidence at the preliminary hearing
and hanged from the balcony of the
court house.

Rev D H Coman, evangelist of the
Western North Carolina conference,
is holding a series of protracted
meetings in the Methodist church
near Clover, preaching forcible sermons
to large congregations. Mr
Coman visited Kingstree some years
ago and made a very favorable irn
pression here.

A movement is beiDg agitated for
a new county to be formed from
Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster and
York. It is said the Duke tobacco
magnates, who recently acquired
large holdings in that section, are
behind the scheme. If successful, it
is probable that Rock Hill will be
the county seat.

Friday and Saturday were celebrated
as Field day by the schools
of Darlington, Jasper, Aiken, York,
Lancaster and Saluda counties and
half of those of Calhoun. In each
instance the exercises were an entire
success and attracted great crowds.
The remaining schools of Calhoun
county will celebrate Field day tomorrow.

Francis J Pelzer,probably the richest
man in South Carolina, died in
Charleston, his native city, Friday.
Had he lived until next Sunday, he
would have been 90 years of age.
For 50 years he had been a prominent
cotton factor in Charleston and
was also actively interested in the
phosphate industry. He served several
terms as Alderman of Charleston.
