GRADED SCHOOL NOTES- ;

We were pleased to have a large
audience Monday night to hear the
Zimmer Sisters, the third of otfr lyceum
numbers.
March the fourth is "Health Day."
Every parent is urged to come to the
school building on Friday. There
are to be speakers as well as
exercises by the pupils.
Sunt Maeeinis. of the Winthrop
Training School, will talk to the
parents in Kingstree on Saturday
afternoon at 4 o'clock. His subject
will be "Pupils' Health."
The County Teachers' association
will meet in the school auditorium
at 12 o'clock Saturday. Mr Magginis
is to lecture. All trustees and j
patrons are cordially invited.
We feel that it is a rare pleasure
to have Mr Magginis with us. We
hope that many people can hear him
at twelve and at four in the school
auditorium on Saturday.
This is test week. Pupils are
busy with reviews and written work.
We hope to be able to play a
match game of basket ball sometime
in the near future.

Klngstree Telephone Co.
The Kingstree Telephone Co is
progressing rapidly with the work
of putting in its new metallic system
which is to supplant the old grounded
one that has served its purpose
for a number of years past.
Some months ago the company
was granted a new franchise by the
town council, which gave its officers
permission to lay a system of underground
cables in the main streets
of the town. The work of opening)
the streets and laying these cables i
was begun last week and will >>e
completed before the end of the
coming week. About 8,000 feet of
this lead cable containing, some of
it, as many as 600 wires, has been
placed and in a short time these little
wires will be connected up with
a new and up-to-date switch board
in the company's new building on
South Academy street. The cables
are being laid eighteen inches
below the surface and are incased in
chemically treated cypress conduits.
The company's franchise and its
schedule of rates have recently been
ratified by the Railroad Commission
and everything has been smooth sailing
ao far, with the exception of a
slight delay caused by the red tape
proceedings necessary in carrying
the cable through the railroad company's
right of way, but this has all
been overcome and Mr G 0 Epps,
, . manager of the Telephone Co, informs
us that unless something entirely
unexpected should happen
> > the new system will be in working
order within the next two weeks.
When the new system is completed
it will be permanent and will
have cost the company in the neigh*
borhood of 810,000. All of the unsightly
old poles and cross-trees,;
bending under their burden of wires,;
will soon be done away with, then j
the town's main thoroughfares will}
at least present a more pleasing j
aspect to the eye as one glances}

given in commemoration of his fifth j
anniversary. May he be spared to

Please allow me space in your valuable
paper for the correction of two
unintentional errors in last week's
mention of our County Fair association
meeting held February 19 for
the purpose of fixing dates for holding
our next annual fair and the appointment
of committees for revision
of our premium list.
The date fixed for the holding of
our next fair is the second week in
November, commencing Wednesday,
the 8th, not Wednesday, the 1st, as
stated in your issue of last week.
The programme for the four days is
as stated by you.
The work of revising our premium
list is in the hands of Messrs Thos
McCutchen, S P Harper and C W
Baker, county farm demonstration
agent, and Miss Amanda Edwards in
charge of the home demonstration
work of our county. We consider
ourselves lucky in having this intelligent
and progressive committee to
handle this important ieature 01 our
fair work.
We are glad again to call attention
to the cash prize of $25 offered by
our president to the farmer making
the best general farm exhibit. This (
is an individual offer and should not
be considered as coming from the
fair, because we have no doubt the
premiums offered by the association ;
will be quite as large as this. We j
hope to see the idea carried out as
expressed in the statement made by ;
the Bank of Kingstree. Let individ
uals offer prizes for community,
town.com club.home demonstration, j
school and other exhibits, that they j
may prove incentives to better and
more elaborate displays.

WEDDING BELLS AT EAKLES.
Miss Effle Wheeler Becomes the
Bride ol Mr, T. Alton Cox.
Earles, February 26:?Sunday afternoon,
20th inst, at 2:30 o'clock, a
marriage of much interest to people
in this and surrounding communities
was solemnized, when Miss Effie
Wheeler became the bride of Mr T
Alton Cox.
The marriage took place at the
home of the bride's parents, Mr and
Mrs J S Wheeler. The ceremony was
performed by Mr L A Rogerson of
Andrews. The room was beautifully
decorated in white and green. To
the strains of Lohengrin's bridal chorus,
played by Miss Floride McCelvey,
the bridal party entered in the
following order: Miss Eva Cox with
Mr R E Moskrow; Miss Vera Chappel
with Mr John Wheeler, brother
of the bride. Dressed in a suit of
blue satin trimmed in real lace, the
bride entered with the groom and1
stood under an arch of green and
white, where the ceremony was performed.
Only the relatives and a
few intimate friends of the family
were present.
The bride is a charming young lady
and has a wide circle of friends.
The groom holds a responsible position
with the Atlantic Coast Lumber
Co at Andrews.

Robert, who have recently moved to
Florence, S C.
During all their stay here their
home was the "house beautiful,"
from which hospitality was daily
dispensed, and where the Christian
life was so well lived that the influence
of it went through all the county
and in large measure through the
State.
Their tastes are- essentially fine
and their aspirations include the
highest excellence in intellectual,
social and spiritual life.
When people of such splendid
character live in a place they impress
themselves upon everything
worthy that it represents. Now
that they are gone their loss is deeply
felt, but I trust that the good
Florentines will receive them with
love, and that they will value them
