Discarded wraps were again donned and blazing fires started. Since that time as low as 18? has been recorded. Vegetation, which was far advanced, has been considerably injured. Many , water pipes in town froze. The "wave" seems to have receded,howeyer, as it is much milder now. Miss Vermelle Plowden entertained a number of friends Friday night. The guests were met at the door by Mrs W I Nexsen and ushered into the parlor, which was appropriately decorated in honor of St Valentine. Af ter discussing the books, each guest was given a little booklet containing an interesting guessing contest. The prize, a heart-shaped bonbon dish, was won by Miss Guerry Green, who had the most correct answers. Mrs Arrowsmith then invited the guests into the dining-room,where the color scheme of red and white was further carried out in the elaborate table decorations and where a sweet course was served. The society is I proud of her boys and girls for the interest which they took in this well known discussion. The judges, after carefully considering the many facts brought out on both sides, rendered their decision in favor of the affirmative.
