Auditors Appointed to Check Up> Passenger Conductors. The announcement that, effective today, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad company would inaugurate a system providing for checking up its passenger train conductors while on tneir runs has caused a good deal of discussion among' the conductors employed by this great system on its various divisions. i The plan, according to the information obtainable, will not be worked along the lines adopted by the Southern railroad several years ago by , which auditors, or ticket and fare* collectors, were regularly placed on trains to relieve the conductors of this work and to render them responsible only for the running of the [ train. The Coast Line's system of | auditing,The Times is informed, will I consist of the appointment of auditors, authorized to board a train at any time and anywhere and to ther> and there take charge of the collection of tickets and fares, requiring the conductor to check in for the run from the time he took the trai n to the appearance of the auditor. The conductor, it is stated, must be prepared to hand over a complete and accurate record of all tickets,, passes and fares on demand. This is the system as explained to The Times by one in a position to know. It is not official, however. The notice of the change has been posted A/ie fkn pAoaf T Ill VOllUUO UU1V.LO Ui cue. vuoot utuc throughout the system. The conductors, it is stated, will gather in Wilmington, N C, to protest, representatives from all divisions having been appointed as a committee to appear before the officials of the company. The conductors do not deny the Atlantic Coast Line's right to conduct its own affairs, and do not object.it is stated, to the placing of ticket takers regularly on trains, but they do object, it is declared, to the system of espionage, as they term it, as outlined to them in the circular issued from the main offices of the company.?Florence Times of Saturday. 4
