There will be an election for five elders at the Presbyterian church jflk Sunday. This is an important duty, V^and it is hoped every member will attend. 1 There will be service and sermon i at the Episcopal church tomorrow i (Friday)at 7:30 p. m. Sunday services at 11 a. m., with holy commun- ; * ion, and 7:30 p. m. , Messrs Wallace Mcintosh and Clarence Alsbrook will open a habberdashery in the store room of the Hirsch building, formerly occupied by the Kingstree Drug Co. Grip is quite prevalent in this ! ^ community just now and a number r.of young babies are ill with the *|%nalady, while there seem to be ^ijSewer adults suffering from it than usual. Union services were held at the Baptist church Sunday night. The sermon was delivered by Rev W S Martin of Hendersonville, N C, a former pastor of Kingstree Metho dist churcn. Misses Mabel, Floride and Eunice Harper have returned to their respective schools at Summerton, Laurens and Reidville, after spending the holidays with their mother, Mrs Edwin Harper. f. Mr Barron Mouzon passed through Kingstree Friday en route to Scranton to accept a position. He was recently thrown out of employment by the destruction of the Sauls-Baker store at Lake City. Rev H D Bull preached to a large body of Masons and a good congregation at the Presbyterian church Sunday morning. His sermon was so excellent that it will appear in full in The Record next week. Mr T E Baggett, the jeweler, has made himself a New Year's gift of a nice Maxwell touring car, purchased from the local agent, Mr D C Scott, Jr. We hope Mr Baggett and family will derive much pleasure from this "New Year's gift." Kinvrstr.ee is to have an up to-datt bakery. "T-PGGourdin is building a brick oven in the rear' of his Main street su re room where the old dispensary held forth, and this place is to be occupied by Mr Weaer of Lake City as a baking establishment. Mr W VV Holliday, the popular local agent of the ACL railroad, whose recent marriage was announced in these columns, returned home Saturday night with his charming bride after having spent a delightful two weeks honeymoon in Qaii^K kuvr uvutu* Mr F E Gibson, who has been en?aged in cotton buying here for sev?ral years, left Kingstree Tuesday For Greenville, where he will make lis home. Mr Gibson has made many warm friends here, whose best wishes follow him, while they much refret his departure. It seems as if the proverbial 'June bride" is a back number. The order has certainly been revers?d in this immediate community. December and January have furnished more brides than any June we can recall. And the supply is not get exhausted?we hear rumors of mother wedding here on the 12th. Rev G Croft Williams of Charleston will conduct a mission at the Episcopal church next week, beginning Monday and continuing through the following Sunday. There will be three daily services, at 8:00 a. m., 4:30 p. m. and 7:30 p. m. Mr Williams has many warm friends in Kingstree, who will welcome him nack among them. 4 The regular meeting of the town :ouncil was held Tuesday night. Mayor Scott and Aldermen Britton, rolley, Mcintosh, Miller and McGrill were present. The work of revising and fixing the license ordinance For 1916 was completed and the same will be made public through the much regret that we cnronicie trie departure of these good people from our community. They will be missed here, and especially in their church and Sunday-school, but we find consolation in the knowledge that their loss to this community will be Hendersotiville's gain, and we hope foi them health and happiness in large measure. Come and see our new place. l-6-4t All the students home for the hoi idays have returned to their schools columns of this paper next week. Mr L R Mcintosh was elected night policeman. Mr 0 W Cottle, for several years past the popular and efficient operator at the Western Union telegraph office here, has been transferred to the company's office at Hamlet, N C. The transfer means promotion for Mr Cottle.and while his many friends here regret his departure from Kingstree, they are pleased to know that he has been elevated to a higher position. He is succeeded here by Mr W H Hobgood. We have received from Col E J Watson, South Carolina's able and efficient Commissioner of Agriculture, New Year greetings in the form of an unique card bearing a fairly good likeness of himself, and representing him as standing on the Southeastern edge of the State addressing her citizens on the importance of diversified farming. The card contains this greeting, "To all our people I wish a happy and prosperous New Year?But? If you'd be happy and rich Let Diversification be your aim. Bread and meat?no matter which ? Or prosperity you'll never claim," etc. Moving has been very much in order in Kingstree the past week. Harry Riff moved from his old stand nearly opposite the postoffice to the room formerly occupied by Davis & Fonnpll- the Kintrstree Drug Co moved its stock into the room vacated by Mr Riff; the City Barber Shop moved from the old stand on Main street into the Hirsch building on Academy street; Mr S W Mcintosh has vacated the Kellahan building: on Main street which he formerly conducted as a hotel. We understand that a number of other moves will be made within the next week or ten days by Kingstree merchants. Mr and Mrs C M Hinds and their three children left Kingstree Tuesday morning for Hendersonville, N C, where they expect to make their home in future. Some time last year Mr Hinds' health became impaired and he was advised by his physician and friends to take a trip to this famous North Carolina resort. He did so and found that his short sojourn there proved greatly beneficial to his run-down physical condition. So, much improved, Mr Hinds decided to take up his permanent residence there, and now it is with - 1 tL . . Montfjomery-Htii'per. I Miss Jessie Marie Wilson and Mi Arry J Poston were married at the home of Probate Judge P M Brockinton at 6 o'clock Friday evening December 24. Coroner H U Kinder was sum moned to Suttons Monday to hold ai inquest over the body of Sam Samp son,who died there Sunday, presum ably from the effect of injuries re ceived at the hands of two or mon negroes who, it is claimed, attackec the old man Thursday night upor the public highway between Gour! dins and Suttons while he was 01 his way home. Miss Christine Tribble returned b her home at Due West Monday after snending several weeks witl her sister, Mrs P 0 Arrowsmith. Mrs Dell Sedgwick of Jacksonville Fla, was in town this week visitinj her grandfather, Dr W L Wallace and her uncle, Kon R H Kellahan.
