At its regular meeting Tuesday evening the Mayor and all of the , members of the town council heard the petition of the Kingstree leie- j phone Co, asking for certain con- ^ cessions on the part of the town to ac- ^ commodate the new system the com- j pany proposes to install. An ordi- j nance govering the same was drawn up by the towns attorney, L W Gilland, Esq, and was submitted to . the council. 1 Police officers for town were elect- 1 ed as follows: Chief of police, J H ( Epps; policemen, J A Scott and W ] r W Dermis. A pretty wedding was that whicl took place Tuesday evening at th< residence of Mr and Mrs S A Net ties, on West Mill street, whee theii accomplished daughter, Miss Rebecct China, was quietly united in wedloct with Mr Molton Ancrum Shuler, i popular member of the local bar. The parlor was tastily decorated for the occasion, and promptly at 8:30 o'clock the bride and groom, accompanied by Miss Ruth Nettles and Mr R W Lewis, entered from the hall. The ceremony was performed by Rev W E Hurt of the Baptist church. Those present were: Rev D A Phillips, Dr and Mrs E T Kelley, Messrs LeRoy Lee, W B Brockinton, D A Brockinton, P S Courtney, W F Tolley, 0 P Barton,R W and Laurie Lewis, Mr and Mrs R J Burgess, Mrs C A McCrea, Mrs W E Hurt, Mrs J H L Chandler of Salters, Misses Carrie Scott, Annie Tolley, Anna Lockliear and Retha Burgess. The bride was becomingly a^ired in a tailored suit, with hat and ?loves to match, and carried a large bouquet of white carnations. After the ceremony and a short period for congratulations, refreshments were served. A number of beautiful and useful presents were received, testifying to the high regard in which the contracting parses are deservedly held. Mr and Mrs Shuler have taken ooms at the Kellahan hotel, where ;hey will make their home for the )resent. Cromer-Hemlngway. Greenville, October 12:?Christ rhurch was the scene of a beautiful vedding last Thursday evening1 when diss Laura Cromer of Greenville and Jr Theo Hemingway of Kingstree vere married. During the arrival of riends a programme of music was endered by Mrs C E Ligon. The ushers, Roy Summers of Newterry and F E Gibson of Sumter, ed the way for the groomsmen,who vaited at the foot of the altar for he bridesmaids. The bridesmaids, disses Mary Gynn of Spartanburg ind Helen Summer of Newberry, vere picturesque in simple lace and irgandie short frocks. They were oined at the altar by the groomsnen, W R Scott and J D 0 Bryan >f Kingstree. The dame of honor vas Mrs John Milne of Cleveland, Cenn. She was attractive in her vedding gown of cream satin and >oint lace. Next came the dainty ittle niece of the bride, bearing a leart-shaped tray with two wedding ings for the double ring ceremony ind preceding the mr;d of honor, diss Ethel Cromer, gowned in yelow silk and gold embroidery. The >ride was led to the altar by her ather.R HCromer. She never looked ooked lovelier than in her wedding >f white satin, en train, trimmed in >earl and lace. A veil fell the entire ength of the court train and was leld in place by a coronet of orange dossoms. Lilies of the valley formid the corsage bouquet. A hair >rooch, an heirloom of many generitions, was the only ornament worn >y her. The bride not only beauti 'ul in face and disposition, but is an irtist of ability, having won distincion in the New York school of art. Several original stories have found heir way into educational magazines, and she now has in completion 1 novel of Scotch life. Dr Hemingway has risen rapidly n his profession as physician and iruggist and is esteemed by all who <now him. Many beautiful wedding gifts of inen, cut glass and silver were sent :rom friends all over the State. Af;er a trip North Dr and Mrs Hemngway will reside in Kingstree, the lome of the groom. Dr and Mrs Hemingway arrived n Kingstree Tuesday night and are naking their home with Mr and Mrs 2 C Burgess, the latter a sister of Dr Hemingway. Election of I). D. C. Olflcers. It was as we expected, that at the last a large number of votes would be handed in, but strange to say, they were all for the first three young ladies in tee above list. Miss Footman of Greelyville, who had been nominated by one of her friends, withdrew from the contest several weeks ago, as did several other candidates who had to go off to scffool. Miss Ada Brockington, the charming and popular daughter of Dr and Mrs W V Brockington, has been the . successful contestant and will be I crowned queen of the fair on Edu- i cational Day, at which time she will ride at the head of the school parade on a float handsomely decorated for her use.
