This fact is strikingly demI
onstrated by the leading merchants

i of Kingstree.
i First in this class of representai
tive mercantile concern attention is
called to People's Mercantile Company,
whose reputable business career
gives it a leading position as an
influential element in the material
progress of our city and the entire

Klngstree Manufacturing & Construction
Co's Plant.
The acquisition of a wood working
establishment of the magnitude
of the Kingstree Manufacturing &
Construction Company's plant is;
quite a plume in Williamsburg county's
cap. It represents an invest- <
ment of $3,000, employs ten men |
and is equipped to do anything in the
wood working line, but will, ,
however, devote most of its ener-,;
gies to the manufacture of coffins. j
The establishing of industries of j
this sort in Kingstree speaks loudly ,

Mr Chas H Singleton and Mr J B
Alsbrook are the active managers,
and if their future record for agressiveness
evens up with that of the
past, and with their thorough (
knowledge of the business, there is ,
no question but that tne undertak- (
ing will be a great success.
Mr Singleton is recognized as one
of the ablest "wood working" me*

Farm Implement Exhibit.
In our mention of the various
farm implement dealers of Kingstree
on another page of this paper
we inadvertently neglected to men
tion one of the largest houses in
that line in South Carolina. This is
the Kingstree Hardware Co, which
handles a varied line of plows, cultivators, harrows,
stalk cutters, cotton
and corn planters, mowers, rakes,
reapers, binders, etc. Mr VV H Carr,
the manager, is arranging to have a
fine exhibit of these various implements
at the fair and has engaged
an expert direct from one of the
factories to demonstrate them to the
farmers.
The Popular Fruit Store.
Some stores are made popular by
the personality of the proprietor,
others by the quality of their goods
and their prices. Joe Zahran not
only has a genial and cordial per
sonality, hut carries a varied line of |
fruits and groceries at prices which
have made his store very popular
with the people of the community.
Our Dry Goods Stores.
Among the live and most popuiar *
stores of Kingstree, we mention casually
that of Messrs S Marcus, W E
Jenkinson, Silverman's Department
Store, and the Kingstree Dry Goods
Company. Each of these stores
carry a large line of ladies' and
misses' goods, shoes, ready-to-wear
garments and millinery. They are
the popular resorts for the ladies of
the surrounding country when they
come to Kingstree to do their shopping.
Just now they are all well
stocked with a large line of the season's
most attractive goods.
