DATES FIXED FOR HOLDING THE FAIR-BEAUTY SHOW TO BE A FEATURE OF THE FAIR. Last Saturday a nteeting of the Executive committee of the Williamsburg County Fair association was held at the court house in accordance with the announcement published in last week's County Record. Barely a quorum of the thirty-six members was present, this to the discredit of those who could have been present and were not. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mr W E Nesmith. j Mr R N Speigner, secretary, stated briefly to the committee what had alread^been done by way of preparation for the holding of a fair this fall. The old warehouse building purchased by the association, he stated, had been thoroughly repaired and painted, 10 acres of land had been enclosed with a substantial fence and a good grandstand erected. Upon the suggestion of the president the secretary read an article from the Charleston Sunday News of August 8, in reference to the Harvest Jubilee and the selection of a beauty queen which promises to be a feature of the State Fair this fall. It was thought by the president that a similar contest could be successfully conducted in connection with the Williamsburg fair. The members of the executive committee concurred in the adoption of a plan to hold a "Beauty Queen" contest and Mr W F Tolley was appointed a committee of one to conduct the "show". This was about the only new local feature added to the general programme, the main object of the meeting being to determine upon dates for the holding of the fair this fall and the appointment of special committees. The dates fixed by th<? committee for the holding of the fair are October 19. 20, 21 and 22. Tuesday, 19th, is to be designate 1 as "Everybody's or Industrial Day;" Wednesday, 20th, "Agricultural Day;" Thursday, 21st, "Educational Day," and Friday, 22d, "Colored People's Day." The following special committees and their members were named: Auditing Committee--C W Stoll, C E Register, D E McCutchen. Railroad Committee?T E Baggett, W W Holliday, C W Boswell. Information Committee ? B E ? . .. -".i - TT T7I *,1 . Clarkson, G A Mcnaveen, n ?j Montgomery. Automobile Committe r?PH Stoll, L T Thompson, Thos MeCutchen. Educational Committee?J G McCullough, County Supei intendent of Education, chairman. Finance Committee?W E Nesmith, Thos MeCutchen, F W Fairey. Entertainment Committee?Hugh MeCutchen, A C Hinds, LeRoy Lee, M H Jacobs, J D O'Bryan. It was the sense of those present to hold a carnival in connection with the fair and the president and secretary were instructed to arrange for same. Rev A F B Harvy was appointed to look after the interests of "Colored People's Day" from the Taft section. The president and secretary were authorized and instructed to appoint one man in each township to collect and arrange the agricultural exhibits. Mr Speigner offered his resignation as secretary of the association, stating that he was so situated that he could not give the position proper attention. Mr Geo A McElveen was chosen as his successor. The meeting then adjourned. K>d for 25 Votes ueen" Contest of the Williamst beautiful young lady in this COUPON ontest, , ;tree, S. The last game of the series between the Latta-Dillon combination and the Kingstree team was played here last Saturday and resulted in a victory for the home team by a score of 2 to O.the visitors having won the two preceding games by close scores. Saturday's game was fast and snappy from start to finish. Field work featured on both sides as well the splendid work of the batteries, Smith and Kite, for Kingstree, and Rockenbrod and McCormick, for Dillcn-Latta. The game also marked the closing of the 1915 season for the local team, with a record of 31 games won out of 42 played, or .738 per cent. A majority of the members of the Kingstree team remained over to play a series of games against the Lake City team Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Only two games were played, howeyer, both going to Kingstree. I It must be admitted that Kingstree's ball team was one of the best I amateur organizations in the State. They were all comparatively young fellows and were selected from various sections of the State. The manager of the team, Mr Fred Lanham, perhaps the oldest player on the nine, worked it up to a high standard of proficiency, as is shown by | the percentage of games won and lost. Unfortunately the majority of teams playing the home nine here were really not in their class. This was realized by the fans upon seeing the first eame of a series and then they were content to remain away, feeling "sure that the Kingstree team would win." This was probably well enough in a sense, but it certainly did not tend to promote the game here another season, or help in defraying the expenses of the players this season, and as a consequence of this disposition the season was closed just about the time the players were at their best. The association was going in the hole. A dispatch from Greenville says the army worm -has invaded that county in droves.and farmers report crops damaged in every part of the county. Clemson college experts were rushed there to combat the situation. Much anxiety has beeni aroused. jjTv Watches and Jewelry of the Waltham, E I Bend Watch from $5.50 t Finest line L Brooches, Ct laces, Bracel Pins ever sh Latest desig and China fc In Buying V Rfittcr flimli fUUIIVI yuun Bring me your I elry.
