The contest to select the most
beautiful young lady in Williamsburg
to represent this county in the
State-wide contest for the selection
of the prettiest girl in South Carolina,
who will be crowned "Queen"
of the Harvest Jubilee, which is to
be held in connection with the annual
State Fair in Columbia this fall, is on.
The object of the contest has been
explained fully in The Record; but a
thing can never be explained too
much, so we will again outline the
plans for the contest. As generally
known, it has been decided to hold
a "Harvest Jubilee" in connection
with the State Fair, which will be
held as usual in Columbia this fall.
The committee in charge of the
Harvest Jubilee wishes to select by
popular vote the most beautiful
young lady in South Carolina, who
will be crowned "Queen" of the
Harvest Festival. The young lady
will be equipped with an elaborate
trousseau, befitting her royal grace
and beauty, and she will sit in state
on a handsomely decorated float in
the parade, which will take place

be attended by exquisite maids of
honor, and chevaliers will pay her
homage.
As stated already, there will be a
State-wide contest to select the
"Queen" of the Harvest Jubilee.
One young lady from each county
of the State will be entered in the
contest, making 44 contestants in
all. Photographs of these 44 young
ladies will be turned over to a committee
of artists, who will select the
one they consider the most beautiful.
Now for the plan to select the
young lady who will represent Williamsburg
county in this contest.
As stated in last week's paper, the
publicity committee of the Harvest

and asked us to conduct a contest
to select one of that number as the
representative of this county in the
State-wide contest. The names of
eight young ladies selected by the
committee in Columbia as candidates
in the local contest are as follows:
Miss Ada Brockington, Kingstree.

Miss Eunice Harper, Kingstree.
Miss Guerry Green, Kingstree.
Miss Katherine Bell, Lane, R F D.
Miss Bessie Huggins, Hemingway.
Miss Marian Hurt, Kingstree.
Miss Alberta Flowers, Venters.
Now The Record wants to state
in the beginning that we did not
name these eight candidates. The
publicity committee of the Harvest
Jubilee sent us the names of eight
young ladies, stating that they had
been nominated as candidates in the
Williamsburg Couuty Beauty Contest,
and requested us to conduct, in
the columns of this paper, a contest
to select the mdst beautiful one of
these eight young ladies, to represent
this county in the State-wide
contest.
