Island. Mr Fairey went down Saturday
and spent the week-end.
Miss Florrie Jacobs, who since her
return from the California exposirtions

Mr B F Patrick and little daughter,Frances,
are visiting relatives at
Hagerstown, Md. They will also go
to Baltimore and Philadelphia before
returning home.

Island with his family.
Scholarship and entrance examinations
for the Citadel will be held at
the court house at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
There are two scholarships vacant
from Williamsburg county.

Mr Louis Sherfesee. who is a sonin-law
of Mrs Louise Gilland and has
many friends in Kingstree, has been
promoted to the position of general
manager of the Massachusetts Mutual
Insurance company, with headquarters
at Greenville.
Mr Sam P Stackley and Miss Florence
Mcintosh will leave tomorrow
for Peachland, N C, to enter upon
their duties as principal and assistant
in the high and graded school
there. This is the 3econd year of Mr
Stackley's incumbency.
Mrs Thos McCutchen and children,
accompanied by Misses Annie Cunningham,
Bessie and Janie McCutchen,
are at Glenn Springs. Mr Thos
McCutchen accompanied the party
and spent several days there, returning
home Tuesday.

Mr and Mrs LeRoy Lee and daughter.
Miss Serena, have returned from
visiting the expositions at San Francisco
and San Diego, Cal. They enjoyed
their trips greatly and declare
that the expositions even exceeded
their anticipations.
According to the new State election
laws all voters must sign the
club r'oll in person. This applies to
municipal as well as the county and
State elections. The Kingstree
Democratic club roll is now open for
signatures at T E Baggett's jewelry
store by B E Clarkson. If you wish
I to vote at tne municipal election on
the 24th inst go and put your name
on the club roll.
We inadvertently omitted the announcement
last week of the marriage
of Mr T L Brewer, the well
known manager of the Kingstree
Telephone Co, to Miss Annie Hubbard
of Bennettsville. The couple
were married at Florence Saturday,
July 31, and reached Kingstree that
night. They will make their home
j here, and we extend a cordial wei;
come and best wishes for a long and
j happy life.

The Municipal Election.
A meeting of the Kiftgstree Democratic
club was held at the court
house Monday night. Hon P H.gtoll
presided and Mr P 0 Arrowsmith
acted as secretary. Messrs M F
Heller,C C Burgess, J F McFadden,
E F Martin and Walter Steele' were
elected an executive committee to
arrange for and hold a municipal
primary election in the town of
Kingstree August 24.
The executive committee met at
the office of Mr M F Heller Tuesday
morning. Mr Charles C Burgess was
chosen chairman and Mr Walter
Steele secretary and treasurer. It
was decided by the committee to
assess candidates for Mayor $10 each;
for Alderman, $1 each; for Commissioner
of Public Works, $1 each. All
candidates entering the race for municipal
honors are required to file
their pledge^ with, and pay their entrance
fees to the secretary and
treasurer of the committee,Mr Walter
Steele, not later than 12 o'clock
noon ^Wednesday, August 18.
The following gentlemen were
named as managers of the election:
Messrs B E Clarkson, J F Scott and
H 0 Welch.
The campaign meeting is scheduled
for Thursday night, August 19,
at 8 o'clock, at the court house.
For Queen of Harvest Jubilee,
Last week we published an article
headed "Wanted?Most Beautiful
Women." As % result of this article
the names of eight beautiful young
ladies of Kingstree and Williamsburg
county seem to have been forwarded
to the committee in charge
of the great "Harvest Jubilee" that
is to be a feature of the State Fair
at Columbia in October and with
reference to the same the following

Fair Association Meeting.
A meeting of the executive committee
of the County Fair association
is called to meet at the court house
at noon Saturday, August 14, for
the purpose of deciding upon a date
for the holding of the fair this fall.
At the same time committees will
be named to arrange all details incident
to the fair. A full committee
should be present at the
meeting Saturday and do the work
that is necessary to be done now for
it is not long until October, when
the fair must be held, if held at all
successfully. The secretary has addressed
a personal letter to each of
the executive committeemen asking
their presence here on the above
date. How many will take the
time and come? Let's wait and see.
