The Jury Commissioners will meet Monday at noon for the purpose of drawing jurors for the June term of the court of general sessions. Messrs E C Burgess, John M Nexsen, Louis Stackley and Jas H Epps were in Charleston several days this week attending the Federal court. Commencement exercises at the Citadel will take place June 11-15. Among the graduates will be Mr Robert James Kirk.Jr, of Kingstree. Master Philip Stoll has received ' the pony that was won by him December 31 last in the pony contest pulled off by the'Bank of Williamsburg and local merchants. The pony is a bay Shetland, 4 years old and rather ""spry." , ^ f A revival meeting will begin at the Methodist church here Sunday, June 18. The pastor will be assisted by Rev A M Brunson of Spartanburg. I Mr and Mrs W E Jenkinson and Mrs S W Mcintosh and daughter, Miss Erline. attended the commencement exercises at Winthrop college this week. We are pleased to know that Mr L J Stackley, who underwent an operation for appendicitis at the McLeod infirmary, Florence, last yeek, is convalescing steadily. Saturday evening of last week Mrs R J McCabe entertained most delightfully in honor of t(ie teachers of the Kingstree High and Graded school and a few invited friends. As National Memorial day, May 30, fell on Sunday this year, the following Monday was observed. The closing of the postoffice was the only celebration of the day here. Mrs C R Thpmas was taken to the McLeod infirmary,Florence,Monday, where she underwent an operation. We are pleased to learn that she is getting along as well as could be expected. Rev W C Owenr Sunday-school field secretary of the South Carolina conference, will speak m the Methodist church here this evening at 8:30 on Sunday-school work. The public is invited. Dr and Mrs E T Keiley will entertain a number of their friends at their home on Acdderrty street this evening from 8:30 to 11 o'clock in honor of their guests, Misses Annie Ray and Margaret Ross. Miss Tyson McFadden went' to Columbia Thursday to attend the commencement exercises of the Col: lege for Women,at which her sister, Miss Marian McFadden,is a student, and who returned home with her for I the vacation. \ The Record acknowledges with thanks an invitation to attend the commencement exercises of the University of South Carolina June 6-9, from Miss Nettie L Marks, one of four young ladies who will graduate in a class of over 100. Miss Marks is a cousin of Mrs C W Wolfe. The anti*tipping law went into effect in South Carolina at midnight Monday. This law prohibits the giving of tips to hotel and restaurant servants, and barbers, also to porters on* railway trains in this State. Copies of the law are required to be conspicuously posted in hotels, barber shops; restaurants and passenger stations. The work of clearing out and replacing drain pipe along Academy street from Krooks street to31r L W Gilland's residence is progressing favorably. The Record extends appreciative thanks to Mr William Thomas Wilkins, Jr, for an invitation to attend the forty-eighth annual commencement exercises of the Porter Military academy, Charleston, June 4-8. Mr Wilkins is a member and vicepresident of the graduating class. The invitation and programme is one of the handsomest to come to our desk this year. The Kellahan Play Ground was formally opened to the white children of Kingstree last Friday afternoon. From 5 to 6 o'clock the ladies of the town served lemonade and cake to the little folk. Despite the frequent showers pf rain there were about 75 children present and the paraphernalia provided for their sport and recreation was well patronized and hugely enjoyed. The Greater Florence edition of the Florence Daily Times is a hummer. It came out Monday evening, May 31. It contained 192 columns of advertisements and reading matter, all gotten up in excellent style | and admirably arranged into 32 pages. It is symbolical of the progressive spirit of the "Gate City'\of which the Times is an integral part. Q Mr Wilkins was apparently in the full enjoyment of his usual good p health -yesterday morning, and he v greeted his friends all day with that n sanfl sunny disposition that is the p 0 dominant characteristic of his na- t ture. He, with Messrs E C Bur- e gess, L D Rodgers and R K Wallace, o Esq, was engaged during the day v taking an inventory of the bankrupt n stock of H Riff. Mr Wolfe was in a very a feeble condition and had to make the ~ trip on a portable cot. He was accompanied by his good wife and his uncle, Dr D C Scctt. Mr "Wolfe has been a great sufferer for several years, but his condition recently became worse and he was advised by his physicians and friends to try a change of climate. The United States Civil Servicej Commission has announced that an examination will be held at Kingstree Saturday, June 26, to fill the position of rural carrier at Hemingway and vacancies that may later occur on rural routes from other postoffices in Williamsburg county.
