PARK TO BE OPENED TOMORROW
Festivities at the Kellahan Play
Ground In North Kingstree.
The pretty little park at the head
of Academy street in North Kingstree,
to be known as the Kellahan
Play Ground,will be formally opened
tomorrow afternoon, when cake and
lemonade will be served from 5 to 6
o'clock free by the ladies of the Civic
league to the children of the town.
For the past three days workmen
have been engaged putting up
swings, see-saws and benches, and.
from early in the morning until late
in the evening the small tots are to
be seen there takftfg advantage of
the devices erected for their enjoyment.

There is still plenty of room in the
park for other play-ground devices,
but as there is no fund in hand by
the ladies in charge of the ground
for the purchase of such, it is hoped
that our public-spirited citizens will
get together and donate a few swings,
a buck board, a merry-go-round or
anything else that will assist in the
healthful, innocent amusement of
Kingstree's little folk, a class and
number of which no town of equal

The park is named in honor of
the donor, Hon R H Kellahan, who
a year or so ago deeded the beautiful
plot to the town of Kingstree
for the purpose which it is now serving?a
play-ground for white children.

Mrs LeRoy Lee and other ladies
of the Civic league have been very
active in getting the ground in
shape. A fountain has been placed
in the center of the park and all undesirable
growth removed.
Already it is conspicuous as a
place of recreation and amusement .
for the children of town.
As citizens of Kingstree let's all help 1
the good ladies who are thus work- 1
ing fot the better, stronger development
of our children. ,

BUILDING PROGRESS.
Several New Structures Already
Completed This Spring.
Kingstree is still growing. The
past two years, 1913-14,were recordbreakers
in the building progress of
the old town, but already this year
several very nice residences and one
factory building have been put up,
while prospects for the construction
of several other residences and one

room dwelling in North Kirfgstree, '
which is occupied by Mr W F Tolley.1
Phis firm lias also about completed a
handsome five-room cottage on the:
same street, opposite the Presby-j
terian i^anse, for Rev P S McChes-j
ney, which will soon be occupied by |
Mr W H Welch, manager of the
Kingstree Insurance, Real Estate &
Loan Co. The material and workmanship
in these buildings are good;
they are fitted with modern conveniences;
the architectural lines are
attractive and add considerably to
that beautiful portion of the town.
% The store rooms on Academy
street now accupied by the Kingstree
Furniture Company and the
Silverman Department Store, respectively,
have recently been thoroughly
overhauled and repaired by
the owner, Hon R H Kellahan.
Messrs Singleton and Alsbrook,incorporated
under the~ name of the
Kingstree Manufacturing and Construction
Co, have completed the
erection of their plant on Hampton
avenue, opposite the Kingstree
Hardware uo s store, ana a quantity
of wood working machinery has
been receiyed and will soon be installed.
When this plant is put into
operation, the manufacture of
coffins and caskets will be gone into
in addition to getting out such wood
work as the proprietors jnay need
in connection with their building operations
as contractors.
It is very probable that Messr3
Thos McCutchen and L C Dove will
have new homes built here during
the summer.
The Messrs Hirsch have had considerable
work done by way of improvement
on the Academy street
cottage near the Methodist church
acquired by them last fall from Hon
R H Kellahan, preparatory to making
it their permanent residence. It
will probably be ready for occupancy
by the middle of June.

"Bines'* Give Banqnent to "Reds"
A banquet was given at the Presbyterian
church by the "Blue" members
of the men's Bible class to the
"Red" members of the class Thursday
night of last week. The class
was divided several weeks ago into
two divisions, "The Blues" aDd "The
Reds," the divisions to vie with each
other infringing in new members.
The "felues" were defeated and by
previous agreement the losing side
was to give a banquet to the winning
members of the class. About
l'>0 persons were present and addresses
were made by the pastor,
Rev P S McChesney, Rev W I Sinnott
of Salters and Rev Alexander
Sprunt, of the First Presbyterian
church, of Charleston. Aside from
the banquet feature of the programme,
the evening was highly instructive
and enjoyable.
ON A LONG HIKE.
Mr & Mrs J Gardner Pass Throngli
Kingstree En Route to Boston.
Mr and Mrs Jno Gardner, a young
couple walking from Savannah, Ga,
to Boston, Mass, a distance of 1,300
miles, passed through Kingstree
Tuesday morning, arriving here at
9:30 o'clock, from Charleston, from
which place they took their departure
at noon Saturday.

They are selling post cards as a
means of subsistence on their long
hike and expect to reach Boston by
September 1.
While in Kingstree the Gardners
called at The Record office, showed
their credentials and immediately
resumed their journey. On this
journey they will follow, strictly,
railroad lines, walking all bridges
and trestles.

Bottling Blant?A Model Bottling
Works.
This enterprise was established a
little more than five years ago, and
was the first bottling plant in this
section of the country, and one
among the first in the South to install
automatic machinery for soaking,
cleaning and rinsing bottles.
Their business has steadily increased
from year to year, making it necessary
to increase their capacity.
Some time ago a larger and more
complete outfit was installed, composed
of a large Twentieth Century

which each bottle is sterilized, submerged
for several minutes in a
powerful cleaning solution which
eats out the dirt from the pores of
the glass, and chemically cleans
each bottle. The bottles then pass
on and are inverted on a 'rapidly revolving

brushing and rinsing machine,
and at the same time streams of
pure, fresh water, under full pressure

about twenty-three years ago and
having not been heard of by any of
