is the lack of publicity. It is
a good idea to let the public know
who gdts the business of the city,
county,State or nation,because only
in this way can the dispenser of public
work be prevented from handing

The British battleship Triumph c
was torpedoed and sunk in the Dar- .
danelles Tuesday. This disaster to "j
the Triumph is described in a brief statement
by the British admiralty, !
which says that while operating in ;
support of the Australian and New ;
Zealand forces on the shore of the
Gallipoli peninsula Tuesday the
Triumph was torpedoed by a submarine
and sank shortly afterwards. ?

the wife of Mr R B Matthews, died I
Friday afternoon, May 7, 1915, at
5:30 o'clock, at the home of her hus- ^
band near Benson.
Mrs Matthews was about 45 years *
old and is survived by her husband I
and nine children. She was a daugh- jj
ter of Mr and Mrs J M Brown of I
Benson, and leaves a mother, three ?

Death of Mr. S. \l. Bradshaw.
Mr Sumter M Bradshaw, for a
number of years Magistrate at
Greelyville, and one of Williamsburg
county's most highly respected
citizens, died at his home at Greelyrille
early Monday morning from
heart failure. Mr Bradshaw had
been in poor health the past year,
hrving suffered a stroke of paralysis
last spring from which he never
entirely recovered. Having held the

i^ears in the Greelyville district, Mr
Bradshaw was well known in this
county and Clarendon for his honest,
upright dealings, not only as an
officer of the law but as a citizen,
toward his fellow-man. He was
thrice married and is survived by
lis third wife, who was before marriage,
a Miss Allison of Charleston,
rhree grown children also survive,
me son and two daughters. The
ieceased was for many years a
nember of the old Mount Hope
Baptist church at Greelyville, where
the funeral services were held Tuesiay
morning, conducted by his pastor,
Rev Mr Rankin, assisted by Rev
W P Way, of the Methodist church,
ind Rev Mr Brown,of the Presbyterian
church. Interment was made in
the old Mount Hope cemetery in the
presence of a large concourse of
?riends. Mr Bradshaw was about
33 years of age.
Attending the funeral services
