Obituary. v
Little Grace, daughter of Mr and a
Mrs M F Haselden, was born June
28,1914,and May 8, 1915, the bright ?
angels came and took her to that
resting-place above, where there is *
no more pain, but rest with the c
angels and God.
Little Grace is gone but not forgotten, r
Never shall her memory fade;- ,
Sweetest thoughts will ever linger 1
'Round the grave where she is laid.
Dust to thy home beneath, ,
Soul to thy home on high;
But they that saw her look in death I
No more may fear to die. j
It was hard to part with the little one, ,
And, oh, so sad to see her die; J
But, then, we'll all try to meet her
Some sweet day by and by.

COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES OF
VOX SCHOOL A NOTABLE EVENT

itruck with this from Earle's school:
'Earle's has the banner tomato club
n the State." Three cheers for
Carle's! Then a little spark of
ealousy, (must I own it?) burned
vithin. I thought of jealous Saul
ind of liberal Jonathan. The ques, ion
as to how we should feel towards
i neighbor who gets ahead of us is
i rather complicated one. Again I
vant to say?Three cheers for Earle's
ichool!
And, now, Mr Editor, when I
luote Mr T Olin Epps: "Vox school
las the largest corn club in the
:ounty," I listen for cheers for Vox.
The commencement exercises of
/ox school, beginning on Friday
;vening and closing on Saturday
ivening, were splendidly rendered.
The capacious grounds, placed
vith comfortable seats and beautiully
lighted up with Japanese lanerns,
softenedlby the rays of the
ilvery moon, made a very attracivp
nnt-nf-dnnrs auditorium.
Long before the hour the grove
vas alive with friends and patrons
intil standing^ room wa3 scarcely
ivailable.
At 8:30 the curtains rolled back
ind from a large stage the 68
)upils opened the exercises by
chanting the Lord's prayer.
Next a "jollification commencenent
song," by the school, brought
ively cheers.
After a doll drill by twelve little
^irls, Miss Mattie Altman gave a
eading?"Let Me Live in My House
jy the Side of the Road and be a
friend to Man!"
The bat drill by twelve young lalies,
each wearing a pair of transDarent
wings, who posed while red
ights were turned on the scene,
vas strikingly pretty. Colonel

ment for 'the Red Devil Lye' "! was
quite a shock to the girls, who
thought they were looking more
like angels than those things.
Next, a reading by Miss Mettie
Eaddy?"A Soldier's Return"?was
very timely.
"The Star Spangled Banner" was
sung by the school, while a large
United States flag was unfurled.
"The Wand Star Drill", by seventeen
young ladies, was excellently
rendered. Miss Nina Cox, the goddess
of the drill, as she waved her
wand and they all fell to their knees,
encircling her with their glittering
stars in the flashes of tableau lights,
excited cheer after cheer until another
wave of the wand wafted
them away.
A chorus?"Give Three Cheers
and One Cheer More for the Handiwork
of the Vox School Corps," was
followed by a tableau in which Miss
Marguerite Cox clung to a beautiful
cross, while a quartette sang, "Rock
of Ages".
Mr S 0 Eaddy made a yery eloquent
talk and brought forth loud
cheering from the girls when he
said: "Little girls are made of
sugar and spice and all things nice";
but, oh my, how the boys did hiss
when their turn came: "Little boys
are made of snaps and snails and
puppy-dog-tails." (Do you blame
them?)
Lawyer Newell of Johnsonville,
who always has a full store of wit
and humor at his command, made a
ery timely speech.
The exercises were interspersed
at intervals with music rendered by
the pupils of Johnsonville High
school, Misses Roena Eaddy, Ella
Russell Poston, Louise Barron and
Louise Eaddy.
Saturday, at 11 o'clock, the exercises
of the day were opened by the
pastor. Readings, music and songs,
followed by the explanation and discussion
of the compulsory education
law by Mrs Dickson, filled the hour
very profitably.
Then a talk by each of our trusMr
.T R Altmnn anH Mr Alhprt
Taylor, chairman of the board.
