WORDS FROM HOME.
Statement That May Be Investigated.
Testimony of Kingstree Citizens.
When a Kingstree citizen comes to
the front, telling his friends and
neighbors of his experience, you can
rely on his sincerity. The statements
of people residing in far away
places do not command your confidence.
Home endorsement is the
kind that backs Doan's Kidney Pills.
Such testimony is conyincing. Investigation
proves it true. Below
is a statement of a Kingstree resident.
No stronger proof of merit
can be had.
S A Nettles, ex-hotel prop, Mill
St, Kingstree, says: "Several years
ago I hurt my back, lifting a heavy
piece of iron pipe. After that my
kindneys acted irregularly, and my
back pained me severely. I was so
sore and lame I could hardly stoop.
The kidney secretions passed too
freely at times, and again scanty.
The least cold I got, settled on my
kidneys and made me worse. When
a friend recommended Doan's Kidney
Pills I used them as directed
and they relieved all symptoms of
kidney trouble."

MILK BOTTLE CLOSURE
Improvement in Seal for the
Liquid Container.
Any Danger of Contamination I*
Prevented by New Device Which
Protect# Fluid and Encompasses
Top of the Bottle.
The system of delivering milk in
bottle is a conceded improvement la
a great many respecU over the ol?
system of measuring It out from a

fest weak point of the new method
is that no means of carrying the bottle
is offered except the q&estionable
one of carrying them by graiping the .
bottles by the neck. Any conUmltv*
tion on the hands is immediately,
transferred to the bottle and thence
to the milk. Of course, the milkman
has a wire basket in which te
transport the botiles, but in transferring
them to and from this, the bottles
are necessarily handled in the
manner outlined above. It will be
readily seen that the desired results
of the improved system are thereby
defeated to a great extent. In a few
cases this condition has been met by
a piece of wax paper, held In place
by a string. This defect is taken care
of in simpler way by a new milk

bottle closure, which not only protects
the fluid contained in the bottle,
but at the same time encompasses the
entire top of the container In such a
manner that contamination of the.
bottle is prevented. The cap is of
pressed paper and the usual disk is
surrounded by an annular groove. ,
The disk portion sinks into the neck
of the bottle and the groove referred
to fits over and around the top edge
of the bottle, keeping these surfaces
free from soil of any character resulting
from handling or from the visit
of flies attracted by the odor of the
milk.
RISE OF POULTRY INDUSTRY
One of the Four or Five Mo?t Important
Sources of Agricultural
Wealth of Country.
(By M. HASTINGS.)
The rapid growth of the poultry Industry
has lately received much attention
from the press of the country.
The best estimates available indicate
that the income from poultry products
is one of the four or five most
Important sources of the agricultural
wealth of the nation. The recent improvements
In the methods and practices
of poultry husbandry and the
rapid development of extensive poultry
plants have also been the subject
of much comment. Although the
poultry plant is steadily gaining
ground in the eastern states and also
in the far West, the great bulk of the
poultry wealth of the country is produced
by the general farms of the
Mississippi valley, and it is also in
this region that the most rapid increase
in production is shown.
In spite of the rapid increase in,
production the supply has not kept
pace with the demand. The proof
for this statement is the fact that the
price of eggs for the last ten or twelve
years has shown not only an absolute
rise, but also a relative rise when
compared with the general average
of values of either farm crops or food
products. In contrast with this industry,
some critics have stated that
the farmer does not realize a sufficient
sum for his produce, compared with
what the city consumer has to pay
for strictly fresh goods.
IMPORTANCE OF SEED TEST
Corn Will Never Get Good Start Unl*ti
W?ll RcUrturf. P.iireri and of
High Germination.
(By R. A. MOORE. Wisconsin Experiment.
Station.)
Testing each ear of seed corn to be,
6ure that 90 per cent or more of It
will grow is one of the important factors
for insuring high yields of superior
quality.
Cold, wet. unfavorable weather mayi
stunt the crop, but in our rigorous,
climate the seed will never even get a
good start unless it has been well selected,
well cured and is of high germination.
?
A few hours of labor and a fewj
cents' worth of material will be suffl-,
cient to test enough seed to plant sev-'
eral acres and will insure a betterj
crop and return many times the investment.
Succulence Is Essential.
