Rhems, March 23:?Dr F H MeLeod of Florence was called here recently to assist Dr L B Johnson ir an operation for appendicitis performed on a little daughter of Mi and Mrs A J Haselden. The Steamer "Brunswick" is kepi very busy now, as the fertilizer sea son has opened. Farmers of this vicinity are reducing their supply oi this commodity to a great extent this year, however. A forest fire in the woodlands o 1 Messrs F Rhem & Sons has caused much labor and unusual excitement, The only damage so far is some fencing burned, and it is hoped that the fire can soon be extinguished. Messrs G G Broadway and B W McFlveen took a pleasure trip tc Georgetown one night last week. Charlotte, N C, March 24:?Mrs Mary Anna Jackson,widow of Thom' as Jonathan (Stonewall) Jackson,the " famous Confederate general, died at her home here early today. She had { been ill for many months. An attack , of pneumonia three days ago basten' ed her death. Her granddaughter, } Mr3 Randolph Preston, and other relatives were at Mrs Jackson's bed side when she died. Public build. ings, schqpls and business houses , will be closed tomorrow, the day of the funeral. The body will be buried at Lexington, Va, beside that of "Stonewall" Jackson.
